Senior AutoCAD Drafter & Project Coordinator – Architectural Metalwork

We are an Australian metalwork company seeking an experienced Senior AutoCAD Drafter and Project Coordinator to join our team remotely on a full-time basis.
The primary responsibility of this role is producing accurate and practical AutoCAD 2D shop drawings for architectural and structural metalwork. The successful applicant must also be capable of independently coordinating projects and communicating professionally with clients, architects, engineers, builders and other consultants.

- General structural steel and aluminium components
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare general arrangement, fabrication and installation drawings using AutoCAD 2D
- Interpret architectural, structural and consultant drawings
- Develop practical connection, fixing, fabrication and installation details
- Identify clashes, discrepancies, constructability issues and missing information
- Prepare and manage RFIs, drawing registers, material schedules and transmittals
- Revise drawings promptly based on client and consultant comments
- Coordinate shop-drawing submissions, reviews and approvals
- Communicate professionally with clients, architects, engineers and builders
- Attend and actively participate in online design and coordination meetings
- Prepare meeting minutes and follow up outstanding actions
- Resolve design and coordination matters independently wherever possible
- Manage assigned projects from initial documentation through to shop-drawing approval
- Maintain organised project records and correspondence
- Assist with general project administration
- Occasionally assist with quantity take-offs and estimating when drafting workloads are lighter
The successful applicant must not simply copy information from architectural or structural drawings. You must be able to review the entire design, identify potential problems and produce coordinated drawings that can be practically manufactured and installed.
Mandatory qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture or another relevant discipline
- Strong professional experience using AutoCAD 2D
- Previous drafting experience in architectural metalwork, façades, balustrades, louvres, screens, aluminium or structural steel
- Good understanding of fabrication, connections and installation requirements
- Ability to work with Bluebeam Revu
- Professional written and spoken English
- Confidence communicating directly with clients, architects, engineers and builders
- Ability to attend and actively participate in online coordination meetings
- Ability to manage assigned projects and resolve issues with minimal supervision
- Strong organisational and project administration skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ability to produce drawings quickly without compromising quality
- Excellent responsiveness during agreed working hours
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and priorities
- Reliable computer and high-speed internet connection
- Availability to work hours that provide reasonable overlap with Sydney business hours
Software requirements:
The successful applicant must have their own computer and access to a recent, properly licensed version of AutoCAD. AutoCAD software and licensing will not be provided by the company.
Applicants must also be able to use Bluebeam Revu confidently. A Bluebeam licence may be provided if required.
Experience with Revit, SketchUp and estimating will be considered an advantage but is not essential.
This is a long-term, full-time remote position. The right person will be trusted to manage assigned projects independently and will have opportunities to take on greater project coordination and estimating responsibilities based on their performance and capability.
