Senior Accountant / Bookkeeper – Xero & CFO Reporting

About CareWell Diagnostix

CareWell Diagnostix is a growing Australian diagnostic imaging organisation operating multiple clinics across Melbourne.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Bookkeeper who can manage day-to-day bookkeeping accurately while also providing management accounting, financial analysis and CFO-level reporting support as our business continues to grow.

This role is ideal for someone who doesn't just enter numbers into Xero but can understand what the numbers are telling management.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Accounting

Maintain accurate financial records in Xero
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Accounts payable and accounts receivable
Supplier invoice processing and reconciliation
Payroll-related accounting support
GST/BAS preparation support
Month-end reconciliations and closing
Maintain accurate chart of accounts
Identify and investigate discrepancies
Maintain supporting financial documentation
Liaise with our Australian accountant and management when required

Management Accounting & CFO Reporting

Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reports
Develop management reporting packs and dashboards
Analyse actual performance against budgets
Prepare budgets and financial forecasts
Monitor cash flow and prepare cash-flow forecasts
Analyse expenses and identify unusual cost movements
Analyse revenue and profitability trends
Provide clinic/location-level financial performance analysis
Assist management to understand margins and cost drivers
Develop meaningful financial KPIs
Provide variance analysis and explanations
Assist with financial modelling for new clinics, equipment and business investments
Help management identify opportunities to improve profitability and financial efficiency
Present financial information in simple, practical language to management
Who We Are Looking For

Ideally, you will have:

Accounting degree or equivalent professional qualification
3–5+ years of accounting/bookkeeping experience
Strong hands-on Xero experience
Previous experience working with an Australian business
Strong knowledge of AP, AR, reconciliations and month-end accounting
Experience preparing management accounts and financial reports
Strong understanding of P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow
Budgeting and forecasting experience
Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
Ability to analyse financial data rather than simply process transactions
Excellent written and spoken English
High attention to detail
Strong integrity and confidentiality
Ability to work independently and take ownership

Experience with Australian GST/BAS, payroll, healthcare, medical businesses or multi-site organisations would be highly regarded.

CPA/CA or equivalent accounting qualification would also be highly regarded.

What We Really Want

We are looking for someone who can operate at two levels.

At the first level, you need to ensure our books are accurate, reconciled and up to date.

At the second level, we want you to step back from the transactions and help management answer questions such as:

Where are we making money?
Where are we losing money?
What is changing month to month?
What is our cash-flow position?
Which clinic or area is performing best?
Are our costs increasing faster than revenue?
What should management be paying attention to?

We don't just want financial reports generated.

We want someone who can explain what the reports mean and recommend what management should investigate or consider doing next.
