Motion Designer Figma
Confidential employer
About the Role
We're a boutique branding studio based in the Netherlands. We work at the intersection of brand identity, strategy, and design execution. Our brand and design work is built in Figma, and we're now bringing that work to life in motion for social and beyond.
We're looking for a skilled motion designer to join us on a gig basis, with a clear path toward part-time and eventually full-time collaboration for the right person. Our graphic designer and creative lead design everything in Figma. Your job is to take those finished designs and turn them into motion: animated brand content, kinetic typography, logo reveals, and explainer graphics that feel as considered as the brands we build.
This is not an entry-level role, and it is NOT for someone who just started animating and is looking to grow into the work. We need someone who has already done this at a high level, repeatedly, and can prove it with published work.
What You'll Do
- Receive briefs via online meeting, written documentation, and finished Figma design files, then independently own the animation from static design to final motion
- Create animated brand content for social: kinetic typography, quote and statement reels, framework and process explainers, announcement and case-study pieces
- Produce logo animations, brand reveals, intros, outros, and motion stings from our identity systems
- Translate Figma designs faithfully into motion, respecting the original layout, type, and spacing
- Build reusable, editable animated templates so our best formats can be repeated across campaigns and clients
- Design transitions and motion polish, and add animated graphic layers where needed
- Deliver organised, well-structured project files (clean comps, logical naming, reusable pre-comps) and export to the correct specs for social (9:16) and web
What This Role Is Not
This is not primarily a footage-editing or videography role. We're after animated design, moving type, graphics, and brand motion built from our Figma work, not cutting and grading filmed clips. If you also edit footage, that's a bonus, but it is not the core of this role.
It's not for someone who only assembles presets or templates without understanding brand logic. We provide brand deliverables and expect motion that feels intentional, not generic default animation.
And it's not for someone who needs constant hand-holding. You receive the brief, ask the right questions upfront, and deliver, with proactive communication if questions come up.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- A strong showreel and portfolio of published motion design work that shows real craft in kinetic type, brand animation, and graphic motion. We will be looking at it critically
- Expert-level After Effects. This is the core tool of the role
- Excellent kinetic typography. You can animate type in a specific brand typeface so it feels designed, not defaulted
- The ability to work from Figma design files and translate static layouts faithfully into motion
- A strong sense of timing, easing, and pacing. Your animation should feel premium and considered, never stiff or templated
- Clean working habits: organised comps, logical naming, reusable pre-comps, editable project files
- Reliable communication in English, written and spoken
- Able to work independently from a brief with minimal back-and-forth
Nice to have:
- A templated, systematic way of working. You structure and document your files so our best formats become repeatable, as we intend to systematise our content
- Illustrator experience and comfort preparing or adapting vector assets
- Lottie or web-export experience, and familiarity with motion for digital products
- A sense for sound, syncing motion to audio
- Editing ability (Premiere) for the occasional mixed piece
- Prior agency or brand content experience
How We Work Together
Every project starts with a briefing call where we walk you through the use case, goals, and brand direction. After the call, we provide written documentation and the finished Figma design files. From there, you own the animation. We expect proactive communication if questions come up. No silence until delivery.
Compensation
This starts as a gig engagement, paid hourly, based on experience and portfolio. We pay well for the right person. Strong collaborators will have the opportunity to move into a structured part-time role, and eventually a full-time position as the relationship grows.
How to Apply
Send us:
- Your showreel and portfolio, links to published, live motion work only. No unlisted mockups or static frames. We want to see what you've actually shipped
- A short introduction: your background, the types of projects you've worked on, the tools you're expert in, and your hourly rate expectation
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a paid test project, one short motion piece animated from a real Figma brief, before we move forward. Applications without a showreel will not be reviewed.
