Product Research & Development Associate
Full-time | Remote | Product Department
We are a UK-based e-commerce company operating across the USA, UK and EU, with a growing portfolio of health and children's products.
We are looking for a highly curious, analytical and commercially minded person to identify the next generation of products for our business.
Your job is to find opportunities, investigate them deeply and determine whether they are actually worth pursuing.
What You Will Do
Product & Market Research
- Research new product opportunities within our niches
- Identify trends, customer needs and market gaps
- Find product variations, line extensions and improvements
- Research competitors, pricing, positioning and features
- Analyse customer reviews to understand what people love, dislike and want improved
Validate Product Opportunities
Before we invest time and money developing a product, you will help determine:
- Is there genuine demand?
- What problem does it solve?
- Who is the target customer?
- What are customers currently buying?
- What are competitors failing to solve?
- What could we do differently?
- How competitive is the market?
- What price could we sell at?
- What are likely product costs and margins?
- Is this opportunity commercially worthwhile?
We don't want research for the sake of research.
We want to know: “Should we make this product — and why?”
Customer Insight
You will also become responsible for systematically learning from our existing customers.
You will:
- Collect and analyse customer reviews and complaints
- Identify recurring product problems and requested features
- Categorise feedback and identify patterns
- Track changes in customer feedback
- Turn customer insights into product improvement recommendations
You will pass these insights to our China-based Product Development Specialist, who will investigate and solve the physical product issues.
Product Development & Pipeline
Once a product is approved, you will continue supporting development with:
- Customer research
- Competitor analysis
- Target customer requirements
- Feature recommendations
- Pricing and positioning research
- Market trends
- Key problems the product must solve
You will also maintain our product opportunity pipeline, research documents, customer feedback and project information, ensuring important insights and decisions don't get lost.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Is naturally curious and constantly asks “why?”
- Has excellent research, analytical and critical-thinking skills
- Thinks commercially rather than simply finding “interesting” products
- Can distinguish a genuinely attractive opportunity from a bad one
- Is comfortable with numbers, spreadsheets and data
- Can turn large amounts of customer feedback into clear insights
- Has excellent written communication and organisation skills
- Is proactive and takes ownership
- Has strong attention to detail
Experience in e-commerce, Amazon, product research, market research, product management or consumer products is strongly preferred.
Experience with Amazon research tools, Google Trends, competitor intelligence tools and spreadsheets is an advantage.
The Type of Person We Want
We are not looking for someone who simply searches Amazon and produces product lists.
If you see a product with 10,000 reviews, we want you asking:
Why is it selling? Who is buying it? What are customers complaining about? What are competitors failing to solve? Could we build something meaningfully better? Would customers pay enough for it to be profitable?
You should be comfortable challenging assumptions and telling us when an idea isn't good enough to pursue.
We are a remote female team that moves quickly, takes work seriously and invests in training and development. We do not do graveyard hours.
