About the Role
We're a U.S.-based cannabis retailer looking for a detail-oriented accountant to handle our day-to-day books across multiple entities. You'll own reconciliations, accruals, inventory entries, sales tax, and monthly reporting. We're not looking for a rubber-stamper — we want someone who notices when something is off, asks the right questions, and keeps the books genuinely clean. Training will be provided for U.S.-specific items like income tax accruals and cannabis-specific accounting nuances.
Note: The cannabis industry has unique tax and compliance considerations (including IRC 280E). No prior cannabis experience required — we'll train you — but you should be comfortable working in a regulated industry.
What You'll Do:
Perform bank and cash reconciliations, including intercompany transfers
Maintain prepaid expense and insurance amortization schedules
Manage accruals for payroll taxes, tips, and sales tax liabilities
Prepare monthly financial reporting packages
Handle intercompany invoicing, allocate split expenses, and balance collaboratively with team members
Record inventory additions, shrinkage, and COGS adjustments based on POS data
Reconcile and record sales from multiple payment methods (cash, card, debit, ACH, etc.)
Prepare sales tax filings and provide audit support
Calculate, accrue, and process income tax payments (specific training provided)
What You Need:
1+ years of accounting experience
Working proficiency in QuickBooks
Solid Excel skills: SUMIF, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, conditional formatting
Strong grasp of accrual accounting and reconciliations
Excellent written English and proactive communication
Ability to work full PST hours during the training period
Reliable internet, backup power, and a quiet workspace
Nice to Have:
Experience working with U.S. retail clients or businesses
Familiarity with U.S. sales tax filings (multi-state a plus)
Experience with POS systems (especially cannabis POS like Dutchie, Treez, Flowhub, or general retail POS)
Comfort working in a cash-heavy business environment
CPA, CMA, or accounting degree
How to Apply:
Please start your application with the word "RECONCILED" so we know you read the full post.
In your message, include:
1. A brief introduction and summary of your relevant accounting experience — written in your own words
2. The QuickBooks version(s) and POS systems you've worked with
3. Your monthly salary expectation within the range
4. Your available start date and confirmation that you can work full PST hours during training
5. Answer this question in 2–3 sentences: What is the most challenging reconciliation you've personally completed, and what made it difficult?
6. Record a 60–90 second unedited video of yourself introducing your accounting background and walking through one Excel formula you use often. Upload to Google Drive, Loom, or YouTube (unlisted) and share the link.
Applications without the keyword, the personal answer, and the video will not be reviewed.
