FULL-STACK AI DEVELOPER FOR CONTRACTOR ESTIMATING AND CLAIMS PLATFORM
Company: Rezie
Project type: Fixed-price, milestone-based
Project budget: $1,000 USD
Timeline: Six weeks
Location: Remote
Future opportunity: Potential full-time position following successful completion
ABOUT REZIE
Rezie is developing an AI-powered estimating and claims platform for contractors in the insurance-restoration industry, including water, fire, smoke, mold, and storm-damage projects.
The platform is designed to receive project documents, damage photographs, measurements, square footage, material information, and applicable insurance requirements. It must analyze that information and generate an insurance-ready estimate explaining the work required, the project scope, and the expected cost.
Rezie also supports the remaining claims workflow by helping contractors organize claim information, review supporting documents, identify missing information, prepare claim-related materials, and manage ongoing claim tracking and follow-up.
Although the complete claims workflow must be functional, the estimator is the primary focus and most important part of this project. Scope accuracy will be the central measure of project success.
Rezie must correctly interpret the information provided for each project and produce a detailed, structured scope of work suitable for review by the contractor, client, and insurance company.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Rezie’s frontend design, user interface, and intended workflow have already been completed. The primary work remaining is the backend development required to make the platform fully functional.
The current backend, estimator, and claims workflow are not reliable or production-ready. This is not a basic code-maintenance assignment or a project involving only minor fixes to an existing application.
The selected developer will be responsible for completing the backend systems that:
- Process uploaded documents, photographs, measurements, and project data
- Extract and organize relevant information using AI, OCR, and image-analysis tools
- Generate an accurate scope of work
- Calculate project quantities and costs
- Apply relevant rules, requirements, and project exclusions
- Produce a structured, insurance-ready estimate
- Support the remaining claims-management workflow
- Organize and review claim documents and project information
- Identify missing or inconsistent claim information
- Support claim tracking, document preparation, and follow-up
- Connect the completed backend to the existing frontend
- Reliably save, process, and export project information
The estimator will be the highest-priority component. The completed system must accurately use project documents, photographs, measurements, square footage, and other available information to determine the complete scope of work and expected project cost.
This is not an MVP or prototype project. The completed platform must be reliable, secure, tested, and ready for real-world use.
Detailed workflows, product requirements, estimating rules, technical documentation, and acceptance criteria will be shared with qualified candidates during the interview process and after signing a confidentiality agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected developer will be responsible for:
- Auditing the existing codebase, backend, and database
- Determining which existing components can be used and which must be rebuilt
- Completing the backend architecture and application logic
- Completing the estimator and remaining claims workflow
- Integrating the required AI, OCR, document-processing, and image-analysis services
- Building reliable structured outputs and validation
- Developing the scope and estimate-generation functionality
- Completing the claim-document, tracking, and follow-up functionality
- Improving database reliability and data synchronization
- Preventing outdated or incorrect project information from being used
- Adding error handling and clear processing-status reporting
- Connecting the completed backend to the existing frontend
- Identifying and recommending any required APIs or third-party services
- Testing the platform across multiple realistic projects
- Correcting defects discovered during testing
- Deploying the completed application
- Providing technical documentation and a final code handoff
- Committing all completed work to the company-owned repository
DEVELOPER EXPECTATIONS
The selected developer must be able to work independently and take technical ownership of the project.
Rezie will provide the existing codebase, completed design, intended workflow, business requirements, and required outcome. The developer must determine how to technically complete the backend and communicate what tools, APIs, access, or third-party services are required.
The developer is responsible for performing their own quality-assurance testing before submitting work for final review. Rezie’s final acceptance testing is not a replacement for the developer’s own testing process.
Technical risks, missing requirements, and blockers must be communicated immediately.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Full-stack web application development
- React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Supabase, or comparable technologies
- AI and LLM integrations
- Structured AI outputs and validation
- PDF, OCR, image-analysis, or document-processing systems
- Backend APIs, databases, and asynchronous workflows
- Automated testing and application debugging
- Experience completing or rebuilding an existing application
- Strong communication and independent problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to complete projects on an agreed schedule
Experience limited to basic websites, prompt writing, or simple chatbots is not sufficient.
Experience with construction, restoration, insurance claims, property-damage estimating, or a related contractor industry is strongly preferred. Candidates must understand that an insurance estimate requires a detailed and accurate scope of work, not simply an AI-generated summary.
TIMELINE AND WORK EXPECTATIONS
The complete project must be delivered within six weeks of the agreed start date. Completing it earlier is fine.
Before development begins, a written milestone schedule will be established with specific deliverables and acceptance criteria.
The selected developer must:
- Begin promptly after receiving access and documentation
- Make the project a primary work focus
- Meet the agreed weekly milestones
- Provide regular progress updates
- Demonstrate working functionality throughout development
- Commit completed work to the company repository
- Communicate risks or blockers immediately
- Reserve sufficient time for final testing, deployment, documentation, and handoff
- Be available for regular communication during U.S. business hours
PAYMENT AND DELIVERABLES
The total project budget is $1,000 USD.
Payment will be divided across clearly defined milestones. Each payment will be released after the corresponding functionality has been:
- Completed
- Demonstrated
- Tested
- Committed to the company repository
- Reviewed and accepted
Payment is based on completed and accepted deliverables rather than hours worked.
Hard-coded demonstrations, manually created outputs, temporary fixes, incomplete integrations, or functionality that only works for one test case will not be accepted.
FULL-TIME OPPORTUNITY
A developer who successfully completes the project, produces reliable work, communicates consistently, meets the agreed timeline, and demonstrates strong technical ownership may be offered an ongoing full-time position with Rezie.
A full-time offer is not guaranteed and will depend on project performance and company needs.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit a cover letter specifically addressing why you are a strong fit for this project.
Your cover letter should include:
1. Your experience building AI-powered applications or backend systems.
2. Any experience with construction, restoration, insurance claims, property damage, or estimating software.
3. An example of a system you built that processed documents, photographs, or other unstructured information.
4. How you would approach a project where the accuracy of the generated scope is the most important requirement.
5. Your experience independently selecting APIs, testing your work, and resolving technical problems.
6. Confirmation that you can communicate during U.S. business hours.
Generic applications that do not address these questions will not be considered.
