About the Role

WHO WE ARE

MSET is a US marketing agency running paid lead generation for local service businesses: contractors, roofers, remodelers, home services, and similar trades. Our static ads run on Facebook and Instagram with real money behind them, and they exist to do one thing: make a homeowner stop scrolling and fill out a form. Every design decision gets judged against that.

READ THIS FIRST

We are hiring a team member, not a gig worker. Someone we can rely on long term, who becomes part of how this agency operates and grows with it. This is not a beginner role: if you are new to design or have never made ads, do not apply. You will not pass the test and it will waste your time and ours.

One more thing. This post contains everything we require, and we do not take anyone seriously who applies without reading all of it. Your application will show us whether you did.

THE JOB

We send you the raw material: the copy, the offer, the claims, business info, and photos. You turn that into a finished static ad. That translation is the entire skill we are hiring: taking words and information and building the visual that makes them land.

And understand the bar here. Sometimes you get copy and nothing else. No reference, no mood board, no example to lean on. Blank canvas. We expect you to come back with something fire anyway, because the concept lives in your head, not in a swipe file. When we do hand you a reference, you match it or beat it. Both of these are the job. If only one of them is, this role is not for you.

THE STYLE RANGE (READ THIS TWICE)

This is the requirement we care about most. You must have a full arsenal, a real range of distinct design styles, and switch between them on command:

  • Bold offer-led promos with big type and hard contrast
  • Clean, premium, minimal layouts for high-ticket trust
  • Busy retail-style price-and-deal designs
  • Informational and editorial layouts that teach before they sell
  • Before-and-after and proof-driven layouts
  • Testimonial and review-card designs
  • Native-feeling designs that do not read as ads at first glance

If every piece in your portfolio looks like the same designer made it on the same day, do not apply. One aesthetic is a dealbreaker here, no matter how good it is.

MARKETING KNOWLEDGE WE EXPECT

  • Visual hierarchy as a selling tool: where the eye lands first, second, third, and why that order is hook, proof, offer.
  • Thumb-stop thinking: what makes a static interrupt a feed scroll on a phone screen.
  • The informational versus visual trade: when an ad should educate with density and when it should punch with one image and five words.
  • Mobile-first legibility: type sizes, contrast, and safe zones that survive every Meta placement.
  • Enough Meta ad policy awareness to design compliant: no misleading before-afters, no unreadable text walls.

AI: USE IT, BUT IT BETTER NOT SHOW

We encourage AI in your workflow. Generate backgrounds, extend photos, rough out concepts, move faster, we are for all of it. But the finished creative can never look AI-made. No plastic skin, no melted edges, no garbled text, no generic AI gloss. A homeowner scrolling can smell it, and so can we. And we do not just rely on eyes: AI-generated imagery carries fingerprints, hidden watermarks and metadata credentials, and we check creatives against detection before anything goes live. Use AI like a professional tool underneath real design judgment, deliver work that reads human-made, and we will get along great. Hand us obvious AI output as a finished ad and the engagement ends there.

DELIVERABLES AND STANDARDS

  • Sizes per brief: 4:5 and 1:1 standard, 9:16 when asked.
  • Layered source files delivered with every final (PSD, Figma, or equivalent). We own the working files.
  • Fonts and stock imagery only from sources you hold rights to use commercially.
  • You design with the claims, numbers, and reviews we give you. Never invent stats, testimonials, or guarantees. One fabricated element ends the engagement.
  • One revision pass included per design. We send notes in a single batch, you apply them once, done.

NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Real, provable experience designing lead generation ad creatives. Not just logos, not just branding decks, not just social posts.
  • A real portfolio we can open: a site, a Behance, or an organized Drive folder, and it must show RANGE across different styles, not one look repeated.
  • You can take copy and business information and come back with a strong visual from a blank canvas, no reference required, without a call, without twenty questions. Given a reference, you match it or beat it.
  • Reliable on deadlines, every single time. A late creative is a missed launch. One missed deadline without warning ends the engagement.
  • Speed. When we need a creative fast, you can turn a finished static in a couple of hours to a day, not in a week. Fast never excuses sloppy, and sloppy never excuses slow.
  • Attention to detail, because one typo in a headline burns the whole ad spend behind it.
  • Responsive on WhatsApp or Messenger during agreed hours, with honest ETAs. "It will be late, here is when" is acceptable. Silence is not.
  • You take notes without ego and apply them precisely.

DO NOT APPLY IF

  • You are a beginner or still building your fundamentals. This is not a starter role.
  • You need a reference, a template, or an example ad before you can start designing.
  • Your idea of designing is prompting an image generator and exporting the result.
  • You have never designed an ad that actually ran with money behind it.
  • You have one style you apply to everything.
  • A same-day turnaround request would break your schedule.
  • You want a one-off gig instead of a seat on a team.
  • Your portfolio is illustration, logos, or branding with no ad work in it.
  • You need every layout described to you before you can start.

BONUS POINTS

  • You have designed for contractors, roofers, remodelers, cleaners, or other home services.
  • You have seen performance data on your own ads and changed how you design because of it.
  • You can flag weak copy when you see it and suggest the stronger line.

PAY AND GROWTH

$10 per finished static ad, and the rate is negotiable up on quality: show us you design at the level we are looking for and we pay for it. Work comes in batches as we need it, not on a fixed schedule. The goal is one designer who owns the MSET static look long term. Paid through Wise, on time, every time.

HOW TO APPLY

Reply with the word CONTRAST as your first line. Then: a link to your full portfolio, links or attachments for 3 static ads you personally designed that actually ran for real businesses (say so plainly if any were spec), and one sentence on which of the 3 you would redesign today and why. Pick 3 that prove your range, because three ads in the same style answers our biggest question the wrong way. We check applications against every instruction in this post, including ones not repeated in this section. Miss any of them and you get skipped unread.

NEXT STEP

Shortlisted designers get a paid $10 test: our copy and photos, one finished static, 48-hour turnaround. The test is the interview. Pass it and the real work starts.

ONE LAST THING

Put the word KERNING in the title of your application. That is how we know you read the whole post. No KERNING in the title, no reply.
