Content Writer Local SEO Focus
Confidential employer
Fence & Deck Marketers is a digital marketing agency serving fencing, decking, and outdoor-living contractors across the United States. We are hiring a Content Strategist who can plan and produce content that ranks, gets cited, and brings in leads for local service businesses.
About the Role:
You will own Local SEO content strategy across our client accounts. That means d ---------- what gets written, what gets updated, what gets deleted, and why, based on data rather than guesswork.
You report to the SEO Manager, who sets the guidelines and gives you direction on how we work. Inside those guidelines, we want your thinking. Your main contribution is your own understanding of how content builds a client's brand and supports their marketing as a whole, not just how it ranks in search.
This is a lead role. You may have one to two people under you, so you will delegate tasks, build training for them, and review everything they produce before it goes out.
Using AI is expected. Using AI without a system is not. We already have our own system in place, and we will train you. We still want to see that you have built one of your own: your own prompt guidelines, templates, and quality checks, and the ability to explain why you built them that way. That tells us we are hiring someone who thinks about the work, not someone who just uses AI. If your workflow is opening a chat window and asking for a blog post, this is not the role for you.
What You Will Work On:
You will create strategy for and produce:
Blog posts
Press releases written to earn citations, including from AI search
Home page copy
Service page copy
Location page copy
Social media content (a significant part of this role)
Reddit posts
Google Business Profile content
What You Will Be Responsible For
Quality assurance. This is the most important part of the job. Every piece of content that leaves the team goes through you. You catch spelling errors, grammar errors, factual mistakes, and anything that does not follow client or agency guidelines. Nothing ships with errors on it.
Team leadership. You delegate work to one or two team members, create training and documentation so they improve, and give feedback that raises the standard of what they write.
Local SEO content. You understand how local search works and how localized content differs from national content. You know what a homeowner in a specific city needs to see before they call a contractor.
Content audits and decisions. You can look at an existing blog library and d ---------- which posts to target, which to refresh, which to consolidate, and which to remove.
Data analysis. You are comfortable reading Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Google Trends, and running keyword research in Ahrefs. You can turn that data into a content plan.
Local research. You dig into the market, the competitors, and the area before writing, rather than producing content that could apply to any city.
Topical authority and entity-based content. You understand how entities and topical coverage affect visibility, and you build content that strengthens both.
You will not be figuring all of this out on your own. Your SEO Manager already knows this work well, so the two of you collaborate on these tasks.
Requirements:
1) 3 to 5 years of content writing experience, specifically in local SEO or local markets
2) Experience editing and quality checking other writers' work, with an eye for spelling and grammar
3) Experience leading, training, or delegating to a small team is a strong advantage
4) A portfolio of published content you have written, with links
5) Hands-on experience with Ahrefs, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and Google Trends
6) Excellent written and spoken English
7) Availability Monday to Friday during Eastern Time business hours
