Senior Electrical Drafter (AutoCAD)

I am looking for a Senior Electrical Drafter to work directly with us on a flexible, project-by-project basis. This role is ideal for a self-managed professional who excels at transforming technical briefs into precise, production-ready drawings while maintaining high-quality CAD standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce electrical schematics and wiring diagrams in AutoCAD from briefs, mark-ups, and reference designs.
• Prepare single-line diagrams strictly adhering to relevant Australian standards and drafting conventions.
• Generate accurate bills of materials (BOM) directly from completed drawings.
• Revise, update, and clean up drawings based on red-line mark-ups and design changes.
• Thoroughly check all drawings for accuracy, consistency, and completeness before final issue.
• Create and maintain standard AutoCAD templates, title blocks, and drawing borders for the business from scratch.
• Develop and document internal style guides covering layers, symbols, text, and dimensioning conventions.
• Build, organize, and manage functional symbol and block libraries for electrical components.
• Keep all drawing files clean, well-structured, and consistently named.
• Recommend drafting workflow and efficiency improvements as the engagement matures.
• Scope each job from the brief, confirm technical requirements, and proactively flag ambiguities before starting.
• Provide realistic time estimates per job and consistently deliver within agreed turnaround times.

Required (Must-Haves)
AutoCAD Mastery: Senior-level AutoCAD proficiency paired with substantial, hands-on electrical drafting experience.
Drawing Track Record: Proven history of personally producing schematics, wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams.
Library Creation: Experience creating CAD templates, style guides, and symbol libraries from scratch.
Standards & Conventions: Strong understanding of electrical drafting conventions and the verified ability to work to Australian standards.
Data Accuracy: Highly accurate BOM generation capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
Communication: Clear written and spoken English with highly responsive communication across time zones.
Reliability: Completely self-managed, dependable, and comfortable working on a variable, project-based workload.

Desirable (Nice-to-Haves)
Advanced Toolsets: Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar specialized electrical CAD software.
Industry Background: Professional background in industrial controls, switchboards, automation, or building services.
Compliance Knowledge: Strong familiarity with AS/NZS 3000 and related Australian electrical standards.
Remote History: Prior experience successfully handling remote, project-based work for Australian engineering or controls businesses.
