Solutions & Communications Architect (Fractional Contract)
Confidential employer
Job Description
We need a senior architect to build a secure, unified way for authorized people and systems to communicate with our central "Mission Control." Starting with email , but designed to expand to web, mobile, voice, and messaging over time.
This is a fast-moving engagement: an intensive 4-week build to get a secure, working pilot live, followed by a much lighter ongoing fractional role to maintain and evolve it. You'll need to move quickly from unclear requirements to a safe, working system — without cutting corners on security or approval controls.
What You'll Own
Lead discovery and confirm you truly understand the problem before building anything
Design the full architecture — identity, access, data, integration, security, and audit trail
Set up human-approval checkpoints so nothing sensitive goes out without sign-off
Build a working pilot with monitoring, fallback plans, and real test evidence
Review your own team's implementation work and stop or redirect anything unsafe or incomplete
Document decisions, risks, and a clear roadmap for what comes after the pilot
What We're Looking For
Senior experience in solution, enterprise, integration, platform, or security architecture
Track record delivering AI-enabled workflows, case/work-management systems, or auditable automation
Strong knowledge of identity and access management, data protection, and least-privilege design
Experience designing secure systems for multiple organizations or clients without data crossover
Comfortable using AI tools for analysis and design — while personally verifying the results
Excellent communicator who can explain complex technical decisions clearly to executives
Bonus Points
Experience designing for users with very different skill levels and needs
A track record of moving fast from "unclear requirements" to a safe, working pilot
Comfortable saying "stop" when something isn't secure or well-understood enough to proceed
You'll Thrive Here If You...
Would rather build the right thing slowly than the wrong thing fast
Take ownership of security and quality — not just deliver "something that works"
Like high-trust, high-autonomy work where you're the one d ---------- when something's ready
Are comfortable with an intense short-term sprint followed by a lighter, ongoing role
Benefits
Flexible, fully remote engagement
HMO
Paid leaves
