News Writer

We are looking for a fast, curious, and reliable News Writer to join our newsroom.

You'll be responsible for producing accurate, engaging and original news articles covering a wide range of topics, including breaking news, world events, trending stories, entertainment, business, lifestyle, science, social media, viral stories and other topics relevant to our readers.

We're looking for writers who go beyond simply rewriting another publication. Every story should add value through stronger research, additional context, original angles, expert insights, official sources or unique reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Write timely, engaging and accurate news articles.
• Pitch original story ideas with strong traffic potential.
• Monitor breaking news, emerging trends and developing stories.
• Identify interesting and relevant stories across multiple news categories.
• Conduct independent research using credible and authoritative sources.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen stories with:

• Expert commentary
• Official statements and company announcements
• Reddit and social media reactions
• Social media posts from relevant individuals and organisations
• Research reports and studies
• Additional reporting and context
• Historical background and relevant data
• Ensure every article delivers on its assigned headline.
• Follow British spelling, formatting and IBTimes UK house style.
• Meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and editorial quality.

Editorial Standards

Every article should:

• Answer the headline within the opening paragraphs.
• Be original and add value beyond existing coverage.
• Be factually accurate and properly sourced.
• Use clear H2 subheadings in Title Case.
• Avoid unnecessary filler, repetition and generic AI-generated copy.
• Provide useful context and explanations where appropriate.
• Follow SEO best practices naturally.
• Never be a summarised or lightly rewritten version of another publication's article.
• Clearly distinguish confirmed facts from claims, speculation or social media reports.
• Use primary and authoritative sources whenever possible.

Requirements

• Excellent written English.
• Strong interest in current affairs, news and digital trends.
• Strong news judgement and the ability to identify compelling stories.
• Ability to research quickly and accurately.
• Familiarity with Google Search, Reddit, TikTok and X as news discovery tools.
• Ability to identify developing and trending stories before they become saturated.
• Understanding of how different news categories appeal to readers.
• Understanding of SEO and search intent is preferred.
• Ability to write about unfamiliar subjects clearly and accurately.
• Comfortable using AI tools responsibly to assist with research and editing, not replace original journalism.
