About the Role

New Orleans Secrets is looking for a Marketing & Content Virtual Assistant to help us tell the story of our tours — the ghosts, the food, the history, the weird and wonderful corners of this city — to more people, more consistently, and more beautifully than we have time to do ourselves. This isn't a "post stuff sometimes" role. You'll own our email marketing, create social content (especially Reels), blog writing, and newsletters, turning raw footage, guest photos, and our knowledge of New Orleans into content that actually gets people to book. Experience with simple web design for microsite funnel creation is helpful but a willingness to learn is good too. We want someone who can work independently, has a genuine creative eye, and understands that tourism marketing has to feel like an invitation, not an ad.

Key Responsibilities

Email Marketing
Write and schedule newsletters and promotional campaigns in Mailchimp or Constant Contact
Build simple automated flows (welcome series, post-tour follow-up, seasonal promos) as needed
Segment lists appropriately (past guests, leads, local partners, etc.)
Proofread and test all campaigns before send

Graphic Design (Canva)
Design social graphics, promotional images, and simple flyers for tours, events, and seasonal offers
Maintain visual consistency with our brand colors, fonts, and tone
Create simple print-ready flyers for local partnerships (hotels, visitor centers, etc.) as needed

Social Media Content & Reels
Turn supplied raw footage (from guides, tours, and guest submissions) into polished Reels
Provide light filming guidance to guides/staff when we send you footage requests (what to capture, how, what's missing)
Write captions and research relevant hashtags for each platform
Maintain and follow a consistent posting schedule across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook , LinkedIn

Blog Writing
Write SEO-aware blog posts with a tourism/local-interest angle (things to do in New Orleans, tour highlights, neighborhood guides, seasonal events)
Research keywords relevant to our tours and target audience
Format posts for readability and basic on-page SEO (headers, alt text, internal links)
Publish or prep for publishing in our easy website

Newsletter Creation
Curate content (tour updates, blog highlights, local events, guest stories) into a regular newsletter
Maintain a consistent voice and layout that reflects the New Orleans Secrets brand

Additional Responsibilities
These pair naturally with the core role and can be added in full or in part depending on your bandwidth needs:

Community management — Replying to DMs and comments on social channels (including Reddit), monitoring mentions and tags, flagging anything that needs a personal response from the owner
Content calendar management — Planning and scheduling content across platforms
Review management support — Sending review requests post-tour, drafting responses to Google/TripAdvisor reviews (positive and negative) for owner approval or direct posting
Basic performance reporting — Monthly summary of email open/click rates, social engagement, and top-performing content, with simple takeaways, and website analytics
Repurposing guest content — Turning guest-submitted photos/videos into marketing material (with permission tracked)
Partnership/influencer outreach coordination — Light outreach to local influencers, bloggers, or partner businesses for collaborations; tracking responses and next steps

Required Skills & Tools
Canva (comfortable designing from scratch and from templates)
Mailchimp or Constant Contact
Meta Business Suite (or willingness to learn quickly)
CapCut or similar for Reels editing (footage will be supplied)
Basic WordPress or CMS familiarity
Google Docs & Sheets for collaboration, content calendars, and reporting
Strong written English with a warm, engaging voice
Basic understanding of SEO principles
A genuine creative eye — you notice good light, good angles, good stories

Nice-to-Have Qualities
Understanding of (or curiosity about) tourism and hospitality tone: warm, welcoming, a little bit fun, never stiff
Self-directed: you don't need hand-holding to get from "here's some footage" to "here's a finished Reel"
Comfortable giving light creative direction to non-marketing staff (like tour guides) when gathering content
Interest in New Orleans culture, history, or storytelling (not required, but it helps)
Customer service skills to help answer email s and perform daily email triage
