About the Role

I'm launching a new direct-to-consumer hydration brand in the US and I'm looking for an ecommerce operations assistant who can help me get the business launched and keep things moving after launch.

This is an early-stage business. I'm the founder and will focus primarily on product, marketing, content, partnerships, and making the important decisions.

I need someone who is extremely organized, proactive, comfortable figuring things out, and able to take operational work off my plate.

This is not a role where I want to give step-by-step instructions for every task.

What you'll initially help with

  • Researching and comparing US fulfillment companies / 3PLs
  • Requesting quotes and following up with vendors
  • Comparing costs in spreadsheets and identifying hidden fees
  • Coordinating with our manufacturer and fulfillment partners
  • Helping manage our Shopify launch
  • Coordinating Shopify developers and other freelancers
  • Maintaining a simple launch task tracker
  • Making sure deadlines and follow-ups don't get missed
  • Helping organize our email list and Klaviyo
  • Setting up and tracking links, UTMs, and basic marketing attribution
  • Organizing product samples and creator/partner outreach
  • Maintaining lists of partners, customers, leads, and outreach status
  • Organizing customer questions and feedback
  • Helping with customer support as we launch
  • Research and other ecommerce operations work as needed

The person I'm looking for

You should be:

  • Extremely organized
  • Proactive
  • Good at written English
  • Comfortable communicating with US companies by email
  • Strong with Google Sheets or Excel
  • Able to research something you haven't done before
  • Comfortable comparing quotes and numbers
  • Comfortable making a recommendation instead of simply giving me raw information
  • Familiar with Shopify and ecommerce
  • Familiar with Klaviyo or able to learn it quickly
  • Comfortable working directly with a founder in a small company

Experience with any of these is especially useful:

  • DTC ecommerce brands
  • Shopify
  • Klaviyo
  • 3PL / fulfillment companies
  • CPG, supplements, food, or beverage brands
  • Subscription ecommerce
  • Influencer or affiliate programs

Hours

Approximately 20 hours per week to start.

This can grow into a larger role if you're excellent and the business grows as planned.

Schedule

I'm based in South Africa and the company sells primarily in the US.

You do not need to work US hours all day, but there will occasionally be tasks or communication that need some overlap with US business hours.

How to apply

Please send:

1. A short explanation of your ecommerce experience.
2. Your experience with Shopify.
3. Your experience with Klaviyo, if any.
4. Any experience working with fulfillment companies or 3PLs.
5. An example of a project where you had to figure something out with limited instructions.
6. Your hourly rate.
7. Your current availability.
8. Links or examples of companies you've worked with, if available.

Please begin your application with the word FLEXARA so I know you read the entire posting.

Shortlisted applicants will receive a small paid practical assignment before I hire anyone.
