Role Overview

The Moodle & Content Specialist is responsible for custom module creation, course administration, content management, and technical support within the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS). Working directly with Instructional Designers in Education, this role translates educational content, curriculum frameworks, and instructional assets into fully functional, high-quality Moodle courses and modules using native tools and Moodle APIs.

Key Responsibilities

Educational Content Translation & Course Creation: Collaborate directly with Instructional Designers in Education to convert course outlines, storyboards, and educational materials into structured, interactive Moodle modules and courses.

Custom Module Development: Build, configure, and customize Moodle modules, activities, and course layouts using Moodle APIs and Web Services to meet educational and institutional requirements.

Content Management & Delivery: Upload, format, and manage educational assets; build interactive content using Moodle native tools, H5P, SCORM packages, and interactive gradebooks.

Functional System Administration: Oversee day-to-day LMS operations, including user enrollments, role permissions, course-level backups/restores, and plugin management.

Technical Troubleshooting: Act as the primary escalation point for application errors, display bugs, plugin conflicts, and course-level technical issues.

System Integration & Reporting: Implement and maintain application-level integrations via Moodle APIs (SIS, SSO, external tools) and generate custom tracking and compliance reports.

Documentation & Support: Produce SOPs, user guides, and technical documentation; provide technical support to instructional designers, educators, and learners.

Required Qualifications

Experience: 3+ years of dedicated administration, custom module creation, and LMS course building within Moodle educational environments.

Instructional Collaboration: Proven experience collaborating with Instructional Designers in Education to build, refine, and optimize online learning units.

Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with PHP, HTML5, CSS, SQL (MySQL or PostgreSQL), and Moodle APIs / Web Services for custom module building and integrations.

Standards & Protocols: Demonstrated expertise in e-learning standards, including SCORM, xAPI, LTI, and REST/SOAP web services.

Communication & Problem-Solving: Excellent collaboration skills to bridge educational design requirements with technical LMS execution.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with educational instructional design principles (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) and web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).

Familiarity with RTO / VET compliance requirements, educational assessment workflows, and competency tracking.
