About the Role

We are looking for a relationship-driven SEO Link Builder / Outreach Specialist to take ownership of backlink acquisition for a growing Australian ecommerce business in the video gaming niche.

This is a part-time (20 hours per week), long-term role on a set weekly roster.

Right now, most of our link acquisition runs through vendors and resellers, which means we pay a markup on nearly every placement. This role exists to bring that work in-house and turn it into a structured, direct process. You will prospect relevant websites yourself, build relationships with publishers and site owners, negotiate placements at direct rates, and manage a monthly placement budget of around 2,000–5,000 USD.

This is not a mass-outreach or link-blasting role. We care more about 5–10 relevant, properly vetted placements than a hundred cheap ones. You should be comfortable walking away from a link that looks good on paper but does not pass a proper quality check.

Responsibilities

Prospecting & Outreach

  • Identify relevant, quality websites in the video gaming niche and related verticals for link opportunities, including guest - posts, niche edits, resource pages, and partnerships
  • Run personalised outreach and follow-up sequences that generate replies
  • Keep a healthy pipeline of prospects moving at all times

Negotiation & Publisher Relationships

  • Negotiate placement terms and pricing directly with site owners and publishers
  • Build and maintain direct publisher relationships over time, reducing reliance on reseller markups
  • Manage our monthly placement budget of around 2,000–5,000 USD and maximise the quality of links secured
  • Set up repeat-placement or bulk arrangements with publishers where appropriate

Link Quality Vetting

  • Vet every opportunity before committing, including niche relevance, organic traffic, traffic trends, outbound link profile, - dofollow/nofollow/sponsored status, and anchor text
  • Identify inflated metrics, suspicious traffic, PBNs, link farms, and low-quality guest post networks
  • Verify placements go live as agreed and remain live

Tracking & Reporting

  • Keep our backlink tracker fully up to date, including prospect status, outreach progress, cost, anchor, target URL, and - live/lost checks
  • Maintain clear records of publisher quotes and agreed placement terms
  • Report cost per link and key quality metrics monthly

Community & Organic Mentions

  • When time permits, participate naturally in relevant Reddit, gaming forum, and community discussions where our brand or - content genuinely adds value
  • This is a minor side responsibility. Direct outreach and placements always come first

Role Scope

  • This role is focused on link acquisition, outreach, and link quality. It does not involve on-page SEO, technical SEO, or content - writing beyond outreach email s and brief community replies.
  • You will not be reselling links to us through your own vendor network. We are hiring you to prospect and negotiate directly - with publishers on our behalf, with full transparency around placement costs.

Required Experience

  • 2+ years of hands-on link building or outreach experience with results you can show
  • Strong prospecting skills and the ability to identify relevant websites within a niche
  • Confident using Ahrefs or Semrush and spotting inflated or spammy sites
  • Able to identify PBNs, link farms, and low-quality guest post networks
  • Experience with outreach and prospecting tools such as BuzzStream, Pitchbox, Hunter, Snov, or similar
  • Strong written English
  • Reliable, organised, and comfortable working independently to a set roster

Strongly Preferred

  • Link-building or SEO experience in video gaming, esports, technology, or entertainment
  • Familiarity with gaming publications, blogs, forums, and online communities
  • Digital PR experience
  • Experience negotiating bulk or repeat-placement rates with publishers
  • Reddit or forum community experience
  • Ecommerce experience
  • Experience working with Australian businesses

Hours and Benefits

  • Monday to Friday, 4 hours per day at set times agreed in advance
  • Paid vacation leave after three months
  • Stable, long-term role with a growing Australian company
  • A role with real ownership and the opportunity to build our link acquisition process and publisher relationships as the business grows
