Short-Form Video VA / Editor — Home Comfort Content
About the Project
I’m building a consumer education brand focused on home comfort and home efficiency.
The content will be simple, talking-head videos where I explain common homeowner problems such as:
- Why is my upstairs always hotter?
- Why is one bedroom always cold?
- Why does my HVAC run constantly?
- Why is my house so dusty?
- Could my ductwork be leaking?
- Should I replace my HVAC system or fix something else first?
The goal is credible, useful, simple content—not flashy influencer content.
I’m looking for someone who can take my raw phone/video footage and turn it into clean, engaging short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook Reels.
What You'll Do
For each video:
- Remove dead space, mistakes, and awkward pauses
- Make clean jump cuts
- Add accurate, readable captions
- Emphasize important words or phrases when appropriate
- Add simple visual elements when they genuinely improve the video
- Clean up audio when needed
- Add consistent branding
- Export the final video in 9:16 format
- Organize finished files using our naming system
Eventually, I would also like this person to help with:
- Writing/optimizing captions using AI
- Creating titles and descriptions
- Preparing videos for multiple platforms
- Scheduling/publishing content
- Maintaining the content library
- Tracking basic performance metrics
The Style
Think:
Credible + conversational + clean + fast.
NOT:
- Heavy effects
- Excessive transitions
- Loud graphics
- Stock footage everywhere
- “YouTuber” editing
- Overproduced commercials
The person watching should feel like they're getting useful advice from someone who knows what they're talking about.
What I'm Looking For
You should have:
- Experience editing short-form vertical video
- Strong English comprehension
- Good judgment about pacing
- Experience with CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar
- Familiarity with TikTok/Reels/YouTube Shorts
- Reliable communication
- Ability to follow an established style consistently
Experience with AI tools such as ChatGPT is a plus.
More importantly, I want someone who can eventually work independently.
I don't want to micromanage every edit.
Initial Engagement
This will begin as a paid trial project.
I will provide several raw talking-head clips.
You will edit one sample according to the instructions I provide.
If the fit is good, we'll move to a larger batch of approximately 10 videos.
If that goes well, this can become an ongoing part-time position.
Compensation
Please tell me:
1. Your hourly rate
2. How many hours per week you're available
3. What editing software you use
4. How many short-form videos you could reasonably complete in an hour
5. Please include 3 examples of short-form videos you've edited
I'm more interested in quality, judgment, reliability, and speed than the lowest possible hourly rate.
To Apply
Please answer these questions:
1. What makes a talking-head video engaging without over-editing it?
2. What editing software do you use?
3. How would you approach editing a 60-second educational video?
4. How quickly could you normally return a finished short?
5. Are you comfortable using AI tools to help with captions, titles, descriptions, and content organization?
6. What hours are you normally available?
Please include the phrase “Comfort Lab” somewhere in your application so I know you read the entire posting.
I am looking for someone who could eventually become the person responsible for the entire post-production and publishing workflow—not just someone who cuts videos.
