Creative Writer for Interactive Fiction (Remote, Full Time, Long Term, German is a plus)

We are looking for writers. Not content writers, not SEO writers, not blog people. Writers who can hold a character and keep a reader hooked one message at a time.

What the job actually is:

We produce interactive, character driven fiction for a subscription audience in Europe and the US. It works like a story the reader is inside of. You write as a character. The reader writes back. What you send next depends on what he said, how he said it, and what you have figured out about him so far.

The whole thing happens in a chat window. That sounds limiting until you try it, and then you find out it is harder than writing a short story, because you cannot revise and you do not control the plot alone.

A good writer here does three things at the same time. Stays in character. Reads the person on the other side. Moves the story forward without the reader ever feeling pushed. Most people manage one of those. We are looking for the ones who manage all three.

We give you the characters, the story structures and the training. What we cannot give you is an ear for how a real person actually talks. Everything is text. No calls, no video, no camera.

What we need:

• 8 hour shifts, 6 to 7 days a week. We build the rotation together, but we need someone who shows up.
• Your own PC or laptop and stable internet. No phone work.
• English at C1 or better, with a feel for rhythm and register. You will write casually, and casual writing is much harder to fake than formal writing.
• Willingness to take editorial feedback. We read your work and send you specific notes on what went wrong every two to three days. If that sounds unpleasant, this is the wrong place.
• The fiction we produce is romance and fantasy for a grown up readership and it is not PG. Nothing about it is illegal, and nothing involves you personally on camera, but if you need to write family friendly material, skip this one.

A plus, not a requirement:

If you speak or read German, say so in your application and tell us your level. Part of our audience reads in German. We work with translation tools, so German is not required, but a writer who actually knows the language produces something that reads like a person wrote it instead of a machine. We test this in a short conversation before we make anything of it, so please do not claim a level you cannot hold.

If you studied at Goethe-Institut, at one of the German language schools in Cebu or Manila, or through a DepEd German program at your high school, mention it. It matters to us.

What we pay:

$2/Hour + 2% commission starting salary
$3/Hour + 3% commission after having good results with us

On top of that there are performance bonuses tied to specific things we are trying to improve at any given time. Response speed is usually one of them.

Where this goes:

We are a small operation and we are growing. The people who train new writers, edit other people's work and shape the story structures all came out of this exact position. We would rather promote someone who already knows how we work than hire a stranger into a senior role. If you are still here in a year and you are good, you will not be doing the same job.
