POSITION SUMMARY:
The Product Category Manager is responsible for managing and growing assigned product categories from assortment planning and product development through launch, sales performance, inventory management, and continuous optimization.
This role will work cross-functionally with Product Development, Sales, Marketing, Marketplace, Customer Service, and Supply Chain to ensure that each product category meets customer needs, achieves sales targets, maintains healthy inventory levels, and contributes to overall business growth.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, commercially minded, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced e-commerce and collectibles environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Category Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute category strategies aligned with company goals.
- Analyze category performance, sales trends, customer demand, and market opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for category expansion, new products, and product improvements.
- Maintain a balanced and competitive product assortment.
- Monitor competitor products, pricing, positioning, and market trends.
2. Product Assortment & Product Lifecycle
- Manage the product lifecycle from concept and development through launch, growth, and phase-out.
- Evaluate existing products and recommend which products should be expanded, improved, repositioned, or discontinued.
- Work closely with Product Development to identify and prioritize new product opportunities.
- Ensure product information, specifications, pricing, images, and other required assets are complete and accurate.
3. Sales & Category Performance
- Monitor sales performance by SKU, product, and category.
- Track revenue, units sold, margins, conversion, and other relevant KPIs.
- Identify underperforming products and develop corrective action plans.
- Recommend pricing, promotions, bundles, and merchandising strategies to improve performance.
- Work with Sales and Marketing to maximize product visibility and revenue.
4. Inventory & Forecasting
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Monitor inventory movement, sell-through, stock levels, and potential stockouts.
- Provide input into demand forecasting and purchasing decisions.
- Identify slow-moving and excess inventory and recommend appropriate actions.
- Coordinate product launches with inventory availability.
5. Product Launch Management
- Coordinate new product launches across relevant teams.
- Develop launch timelines, priorities, and required deliverables.
- Ensure products are ready for launch across e-commerce and marketplace channels.
- Coordinate with Marketing regarding launch campaigns, promotions, content, and product positioning.
- Monitor post-launch performance and recommend adjustments.
6. Marketplace & E-Commerce Optimization
- Work with the Marketplace and E-Commerce teams to optimize product listings.
- Review product titles, descriptions, images, keywords, pricing, and merchandising.
- Identify opportunities to improve conversion and product discoverability.
- Monitor category performance across relevant sales channels.
7. Customer & Market Insights
- Analyze customer feedback, reviews, inquiries, and purchasing behavior.
- Identify recurring customer needs and product gaps.
- Translate customer insights into product and category recommendations.
- Work with Customer Service to identify product-related issues and opportunities for improvement.
8. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary category point of contact across Product, Sales, Marketing, Marketplace, Customer Service, and Supply Chain.
- Ensure teams are aligned on category priorities and upcoming launches.
- Maintain clear documentation, timelines, and category plans.
- Communicate category performance and key issues to management.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)
The Product Category Manager may be evaluated based on:
- Category revenue growth
- Category gross margin

- Inventory turnover
- Stockout and excess inventory levels

- Product listing quality and completeness

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bahelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, E-Commerce, Product Management, or a related field preferred.
- 2–5+ years of experience** in category management, product management, e-commerce, merchandising, sales operations, or a related role.
- Experience managing product categories, SKUs, or product portfolios.
- Strong understanding of e-commerce and marketplace operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with sales and inventory data.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

ROLE EXPECTATION:
The Product Category Manager is expected to take end-to-end ownership of assigned product categories, ensuring that products are properly planned, launched, marketed, sold, stocked, evaluated, and continuously improved.
The role is not limited to monitoring sales. The successful candidate should proactively identify what products the company should sell, how the category should grow, what is underperforming, what customers want next, and what actions should be taken to improve overall category profitability and performance.
