About the Role

I am seeking a highly organized and experienced eBook Production Virtual Assistant to support the full Amazon KDP eBook process — from niche and keyword research through drafting support, formatting, cover coordination, metadata, and publishing.

EXPERIENCED APPLICANTS ONLY. This role requires direct, hands-on experience publishing eBooks on Amazon (Amazon KDP). Please do NOT apply or contact me if you do not have this experience — applications and messages without verifiable Amazon eBook experience will not be considered or answered.

This is not a general admin VA role. I am looking for someone who understands how to validate a niche using real Amazon demand data (not just personal opinion), help turn research and outlines into a clean manuscript, format it correctly for Kindle, and prepare a complete, compliant KDP upload package.

The role supports short, practical nonfiction eBooks — micro-guides, workbooks, and topic-based nonfiction — published individually and eventually as series once a niche proves itself.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Niche and Keyword Research

  • Research Amazon Kindle Best Sellers, Movers & Shakers, autocomplete, and customer reviews to identify real reader demand
  • Evaluate competition, pricing, and gaps in existing books on a topic
  • Complete a niche validation scorecard (demand, competition, buyer intent, unit economics) for each proposed topic

2. Content and Manuscript Support

  • Help turn research, outlines, and notes into a structured, readable manuscript
  • Support drafting and revisions while preserving a clear, consistent voice
  • Track manuscript versions, deadlines, and progress

3. Editing and Quality Control

  • Fact-check claims and maintain a source log
  • Review for grammar, clarity, originality, and consistency
  • Screen for duplication and confirm the manuscript fully delivers on its title's promise

4. Formatting and Publishing Preparation

  • Format manuscripts using Kindle Create, EPUB, or KPF
  • Test files in Kindle Previewer across device views
  • Coordinate cover design (readable at thumbnail size, correct dimensions)
  • Prepare titles, subtitles, descriptions, categories, and all seven KDP keyword fields
  • Assemble a complete, upload-ready KDP package

5. AI Use and Compliance

  • Document which AI tools were used, what they produced, and what human verification was done
  • Correctly apply Amazon's AI-generated vs. AI-assisted disclosure requirements
  • Flag any copyright, trademark, or high-stakes-topic concerns before drafting begins

6. Project Management

  • Maintain a clear project tracker (one card per book, with stage gates for niche ? outline ? draft ? edit ? format ? publish approval)
  • Organize files by book in a consistent folder structure
  • Provide regular progress updates and flag blockers early

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct, hands-on experience publishing eBooks on Amazon KDP — REQUIRED, minimum 2 years or 5+ published titles. Please include 3-5 books/ASINs you personally worked on and your exact role on each. Do not apply without this.
  • Strong Amazon keyword and competitive research skills
  • Experience with Kindle Create, EPUB/KPF, and Kindle Previewer
  • Excellent written English and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to distinguish verified research from unsupported AI-generated claims
  • Comfortable working independently against deadlines

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Publisher Rocket or similar keyword/category research tools
  • Experience using Amazon trend and demand-research tools (Helium 10, Jungle Scout, AMZScout, Keepa, or similar) to track rank changes, pricing history, and rising-demand topics
  • Comfortable monitoring Amazon Best Sellers and Movers & Shakers movement over time to catch emerging niches early
  • Understands that all research must use Amazon's public data or licensed tools — no unauthorized scraping, bots, or automated data extraction against Amazon's systems
  • Cover design coordination or basic Canva skills
  • Experience with ChatGPT, Claude, Grammarly, or Copyscape as part of a research/QA workflow
  • Experience validating and launching multiple books in parallel

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION

Your application will be automatically rejected if you:

  • Guarantee bestseller status or specific sales results
  • Suggest copying, closely rewriting, or repackaging competing books
  • Offer or mention fake reviews, review exchanges, or review manipulation
  • Request or expect login credentials for my Amazon or KDP account
  • Cannot explain Amazon's AI disclosure requirements

ACCOUNT SECURITY

You will never be asked to share, and will never be given, login credentials for my Amazon or KDP account. All work will be delivered as files for my review and upload. Any applicant who asks for account access should be treated as a scam and will not be considered.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND AI USE

All manuscripts, research, notes, outlines, and business concepts are confidential and belong to the author/company. Work may not be reused, shared, published, or placed in a portfolio without written permission. AI tools may only be used with approval, and no confidential content may be uploaded to third-party AI tools without authorization.

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a part-time, project-based remote role with potential for long-term collaboration as we validate profitable niches. Initial workload may start at approximately 5-10 hours per week and may increase. Occasional availability between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time is preferred for check-ins.

COMPENSATION

This role is budgeted at $4/hour. Please confirm you are comfortable with this rate before applying. Compensation is based on experience and demonstrated ability to support niche research, manuscript quality, and KDP publishing readiness. A small paid trial project may be required before long-term work begins.

HOW TO APPLY

EXPERIENCED APPLICANTS ONLY — please do not apply or message me if you do not have verifiable Amazon KDP eBook experience. Please include the phrase "Reader Value First" in your application so I know you read the full job description. If shortlisted, you may be asked to complete a brief live screen-share walkthrough of one listed project to verify your contribution. In your response, please provide:
1. 3-5 Amazon eBooks/ASINs you personally worked on and your exact contribution to each
2. A sanitized sample of keyword or competitor research you've done
3. Your experience with Kindle Create, EPUB/KPF, and Kindle Previewer
4. The tools you use for keyword research, trend tracking, formatting, and QA
5. Your explanation of AI-generated vs. AI-assisted content and when disclosure is required
6. Your confirmation you are comfortable with the $4/hour rate and your weekly availability

SCREENING QUESTIONS
1. Walk me through how you would validate whether a nonfiction niche has real Amazon demand before any drafting begins.
2. Describe the exact steps you'd take to turn research notes into a 7-10 chapter outline.
3. What is your process for choosing KDP categories and the seven keyword fields for a new title?
4. What tools do you use to track Amazon trends and rising demand, and how do you use them without violating Amazon's terms of service?
5. How do you d ---------- whether AI-assisted content needs to be disclosed on KDP?
6. What would your first 7 days look like if hired for this role?
