About the Role

Virtual Assistant with a Future in Bookkeeping
Remote · Full-Time · Pacific Time Hours

About Us
We're a growing Canadian virtual bookkeeping firm serving small businesses across Canada and the US. Our team works remotely and manages client work independently. We're hiring a Virtual Assistant who wants more than VA work: we will train you to become a professional bookkeeper.

About the Role
This is a career track, not a task list.

You'll start as a VA supporting our bookkeeping team: organizing documents, chasing missing information, keeping client records tidy, and handling recurring admin. From day one, you'll also be in our structured bookkeeping training program. As you pass each milestone, you take on real bookkeeping work: bank reconciliations first, then full-cycle bookkeeping, then your own client portfolio.

You don't need bookkeeping experience to apply. We're looking for someone sharp, careful, and hungry to learn, who wants a skilled profession with real earning growth. If you already know your debits and credits, even better: you'll move through our training milestones faster, and the raises come with the milestones.

If you're the kind of person who spots the one number that doesn't match, who finishes what they start without being chased, and who would rather figure something out than wait to be told, keep reading.

What You'll Do
From the start (VA work):

Collect, rename, and file client documents (receipts, statements, invoices)
Follow up with clients for missing information
Keep task boards and checklists current
Data entry with high accuracy
Support the bookkeeping team with recurring admin
As you train (bookkeeping work):

Categorize transactions in QuickBooks Online
Bank and credit card reconciliations
Accounts receivable and accounts payable support
Eventually: month-end closes and your own client portfolio
Who You Are
Detail-obsessed. A $0.02 difference bothers you until you find it.
Comfortable with numbers. You don't need accounting experience, but spreadsheets don't scare you.
A fast, self-driven learner. You Google first, watch the tutorial, try it, and then ask a focused question.
Reliable. Deadlines are commitments, not suggestions.
A clear communicator. You give updates before anyone has to ask, and you know the difference between "here's my status" and "I need help."
Tech-comfortable. Fluent in Google Workspace and Excel/Sheets, and you've used AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude) to work faster.
In it for the long term. You want to build a profession, not hop to the next gig in six months.
Must-Haves
2+ years of remote work as a VA, admin assistant, data entry specialist, or similar
Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
Excellent written and spoken English
Available full-time, Pacific Time (night shift in the Philippines)
Reliable internet, quiet workspace, and backup power/internet

Nice-to-Haves
Any exposure to bookkeeping, invoicing, payroll, or accounting software
Experience supporting an accounting firm, law firm, or other professional services business
QuickBooks Online experience (any amount)
A bookkeeping course you started or completed on your own
What You Get
Paid, structured training to become a full-cycle bookkeeper (we cover the certifications)
A mentor assigned to you personally for your first months
Pay increases tied to training milestones, not just tenure
Long-term, stable, full-time role with a growing firm
Logistics
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, Pacific Time
Setup: 100% remote
Compensation: Starting VA rate based on experience, with defined raises as you pass bookkeeping milestones. Share your expectations in your application.
Term: Long-term role
How to Apply
Apply through OnlineJobs.ph. Generic applications will be ignored.

In your cover letter, answer these four questions:

Tell me about something difficult you taught yourself, without a class or a boss making you. How did you go about it?
Describe a time you caught a mistake (yours or someone else's) that nobody else had noticed. What tipped you off?
Why bookkeeping? Why do you want to learn this specific skill?
What's your salary expectation for a full-time role on Pacific Time hours, and what would you expect to earn once fully trained as a bookkeeper?
Applications that skip these questions will not be reviewed.
