JOB DESCRIPTION:
Shop Marketing Pros is seeking an AI-Assisted Software Developer to work directly with our Founder & CEO as part of a small software development team. You will help design, build, and maintain proprietary software—including marketing attribution platforms, reporting dashboards, internal business systems, WordPress plugins, automations, and third-party integrations—that improve our operations and deliver greater value to our clients.

This is not a traditional software development role, nor is it simply a prompting or no-code automation position. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of software development fundamentals and the ability to use AI coding tools effectively to plan, build, test, troubleshoot, and improve software. We are looking for someone who can think critically, exercise sound technical judgment, and confidently recommend better solutions when needed while helping turn business goals into scalable, maintainable software.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
The ideal candidate
Has experience building production-ready software using AI coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or similar AI coding agents.
Understands the fundamentals of GitHub, databases, APIs, webhooks, front-end and back-end development, and overall application architecture.
Can translate business goals into clear implementation plans for AI coding agents.
Understands when information belongs in a database, JSON file, configuration file, documentation, or another storage solution.
Can determine when custom software is the right solution versus using automation platforms such as n8n, Zapier, Make, or existing third-party services.
Reviews AI-generated code critically instead of assuming it is correct.
Can thoroughly test, troubleshoot, and improve AI-generated software.
Understands relational databases, SQL, tables, relationships, and migrations.
Understands APIs, authentication, JSON, webhooks, and third-party integrations.
Can read logs, identify errors, and troubleshoot software issues effectively.
Tests software thoroughly rather than assuming that functionality is reliable after a single successful test.
Thinks critically about how technical decisions affect the broader system architecture.
Works independently with minimal supervision while taking ownership of completed work.
Communicates clearly and professionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Knows when additional research, expert review, or a second opinion is necessary before making technical decisions.
Possesses strong analytical thinking, research abilities, and problem-solving skills.

Not Required, but helpful:
Experience with the following technologies
TypeScript and JavaScript
React and Next.js
Supabase and PostgreSQL
Vercel
WordPress and PHP
n8n, Zapier, or Make
Multi-tenant SaaS applications
Authentication, permissions, and row-level security
Digital marketing platforms, reporting systems, attribution software, or agency operations
Experience with comparable technologies is acceptable if you have strong fundamentals and
can learn our stack quickly.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Help plan, design, build, test, deploy, and maintain proprietary software applications.
Use AI coding agents to accelerate software development while maintaining quality, security, and maintainability.
Translate business requirements into well-defined technical implementation tasks.
Review AI-generated code, identify questionable assumptions, and recommend better technical approaches.
Build and enhance front-end, back-end, database, and integration functionality.
Develop and maintain APIs, webhooks, automations, and third-party integrations.
Test new functionality, troubleshoot bugs, investigate failed deployments, and improve overall software reliability.
Follow GitHub best practices by maintaining organized repositories, branches, commits, pull requests, and code reviews.
Protect company credentials, client information, and sensitive data by following secure development practices.
Maintain accurate and organized technical documentation.
Communicate project progress, blockers, technical risks, and recommendations proactively.
Support, maintain, and continuously improve software after launch.
Proactively recommend better technical solutions rather than simply completing assigned tasks.
