Design Engineer – Precision Sheet Metal Manufacturing

We are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join a Melbourne-based precision sheet metal manufacturing company. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong CAD/CAM experience and hands-on knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee daily design engineering tasks in a precision sheet metal environment
Plan, assign, and review CAD/CAM programming for laser cutting, turret punching, and folding machines
Work with TRUMPF and Amada systems using TRUTOPS and AP100
Review and optimize customer designs for manufacturing feasibility and cost efficiency
Ensure engineering outputs meet customer specifications and quality standards
Coordinate with offshore and Melbourne-based engineering teams
Maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and work instructions
Support continuous improvement and manufacturing process optimization

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of experience in sheet metal or related manufacturing
Strong experience with CAD/CAM, particularly TRUTOPS and AP100
Proficiency in SolidWorks or Inventor
Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, DFM, and manufacturing processes
Practical shop floor/fabrication experience
Experience reviewing and optimizing designs for production
Strong communication and project coordination skills
Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Bonus:

Trade qualification or Engineering degree
Experience with TRUMPF and Amada machines
Knowledge of Australian manufacturing standards
Experience working with international engineering teams

Work Setup:

Full-time, Monday–Friday
9:00 AM–6:00 PM Australian Time
Remote/WFH setup
Primary and backup computer required
Minimum 30 Mbps download / 10 Mbps upload for primary internet
