About the Role

Melodik Threadz Co™

Streetwear Graphic Designer / Illustrator — Creative VA

About the Role

Melodik Threadz Co™ is looking for a talented Streetwear Graphic Designer / Illustrator who can take original concepts and transform them into high-quality, production-ready apparel designs.

This is not primarily a Canva, social-media flyer, or administrative position.

We are looking for someone with genuine creative ability who can receive a concept, understand the meaning behind it, develop a strong visual direction, and execute professional artwork suitable for a premium streetwear brand.

The owner will serve as Creative Director, providing the concepts, meaning, references, feedback, and final approval. Your responsibility will be to bring those ideas to life visually.

---

What You'll Be Creating

Projects may include:

  • Original T-shirt graphics
  • Hoodies and crewneck graphics
  • Front, back, and sleeve artwork
  • Streetwear illustrations
  • Custom typography
  • Vintage/distressed graphics
  • Luxury streetwear concepts
  • Character-based artwork
  • Symbolic and metaphorical artwork
  • Badges, emblems, and supporting graphics
  • Garment mockups
  • Print-ready production files

Many concepts will begin as an idea rather than completed artwork.

For example, you may receive a concept, meaning, mood, and several visual references. You will be expected to use your artistic ability to develop that information into an original composition rather than simply copying the references.

---

What We Need From You

1. Strong Creative Interpretation

You must be able to take an abstract idea and develop it visually.

We do not want someone who needs every element, position, font, and detail explained before beginning.

We want someone who can think creatively and contribute ideas while still following the Creative Director's vision.

2. Strong Streetwear Understanding

You should understand current and classic streetwear aesthetics, including:

  • Oversized graphic compositions
  • Vintage-inspired graphics
  • Premium typography
  • Distressing and texture
  • Placement and proportions
  • Front/back relationships
  • Sleeve graphics
  • Garment color interaction
  • Visual hierarchy

The artwork should look like something consumers would actually purchase—not simply artwork placed on a shirt.

3. Illustration & Graphic Design Ability

Strong skills in:

Adobe Photoshop — Required

Adobe Illustrator — Strongly Preferred

Additional illustration software is acceptable.

Canva may be used for certain marketing projects, but Canva alone is not sufficient for this position.

4. Production-Ready Artwork

You must understand how to prepare artwork for apparel production.

Final files may need to include:

  • High-resolution artwork
  • 300 DPI
  • Transparent PNG
  • True transparent backgrounds
  • Vector files when appropriate
  • PSD/AI working files
  • Correct print dimensions
  • Clean edges
  • No unwanted backgrounds, shadows, or artifacts
  • Proper color management
  • Separate front/back/sleeve graphics when required

Artwork must be suitable for professional DTF, DTG, screen printing, embroidery, or other garment-production methods, depending on the project.

---

Our Creative Philosophy

Melodik Threadz Co™ designs frequently begin with music, culture, language, emotions, experiences, and everyday expressions.

However, our goal is usually not to illustrate an idea literally.

We prefer visual metaphors.

The artwork should make someone look at the shirt, understand something deeper is happening, and potentially discover another meaning after looking at it again.

Originality is extremely important.

---

Important Brand Rules

You will receive detailed brand standards once hired, but several principles are important from the beginning:

  • Do not copy another clothing brand's artwork.
  • References are for direction and inspiration, not duplication.
  • Avoid generic-looking AI artwork.
  • Avoid artwork that looks obviously AI-generated.
  • Typography must feel intentional and professional.
  • Small text must remain readable.
  • Brand spelling must always be accurate.
  • Avoid unnecessary elements just to fill space.
  • Every element should contribute to the concept.
  • Designs should feel premium and commercially wearable.

AI tools may be used to assist the creative process when approved, but the finished artwork must be professionally designed, refined, edited, and production-ready.

---

Creative Workflow

Our normal process will be:

STEP 1 — Concept

Creative Director provides the idea, meaning, references, garment color, and general direction.

STEP 2 — Interpretation

Designer develops the visual direction and composition.

STEP 3 — Initial Design

Designer submits the first concept for review.

STEP 4 — Feedback

Creative Director provides revisions and direction.

STEP 5 — Final Artwork

Designer completes the approved design.

STEP 6 — Production Files

Designer prepares the required print-ready files.

STEP 7 — Mockup

Once artwork is approved, the design may be presented on the appropriate garment mockup.

---

What We Are NOT Looking For

Please do not apply if your experience is primarily:

  • Canva templates
  • Social-media flyers
  • Basic logo creation
  • Simple photo editing
  • Premade T-shirt templates
  • Copying Pinterest designs
  • Generating an AI image and submitting it without professional editing

Those skills can be useful, but they are not enough for this position.

We need an actual designer and visual problem-solver.

---

Portfolio Requirements

Please send examples of your strongest work.

We especially want to see:

  • Streetwear
  • Apparel graphics
  • Illustration
  • Typography
  • Poster-style compositions
  • Character artwork
  • Vintage graphics
  • Complex Photoshop compositions

If you have worked with clothing brands previously, please identify which designs were actually created by you.

---

Paid Design Test

Final candidates may be asked to complete a paid creative test.

Every candidate will receive the same concept and general instructions.

We will evaluate:

Creativity — Did you bring something original to the concept?

Interpretation — Did you understand the idea instead of simply illustrating the words?

Design Quality — Does it look professional?

Streetwear Appeal — Would someone actually buy and wear it?

Typography — Does the typography complement the artwork?

Attention to Detail — Is the artwork polished?

Communication — Did you understand and respond appropriately to feedback?

Technical Execution — Can the artwork actually be manufactured?

Originality — Does it feel unique rather than copied or obviously AI-generated?

---

When Applying, Please Send

1. Your name and location
2. Your portfolio
3. Examples of apparel/streetwear designs
4. Software you use
5. Years of graphic-design experience
6. Whether you use Photoshop
7. Whether you use Illustrator
8. Your experience preparing artwork for garment printing
9. Your experience with DTF, DTG, screen printing, or embroidery
10. Your monthly full-time rate OR preferred per-design rate
11. Your normal working hours and time zone
12. Your computer specifications
13. Your internet speed
14. Your earliest available start date

Please also answer:

If someone gives you an idea but doesn't tell you exactly what the finished artwork should look like, are you comfortable developing the creative direction yourself?

---

What Success Looks Like

The ideal designer eventually understands the Melodik Threadz Co™ visual language well enough that the Creative Director can explain an idea and you can take it from:

Concept ? Interpretation ? Artwork ? Revision ? Production File

without needing every creative decision made for you.

We are looking for someone interested in developing a long-term creative relationship with the brand, not simply completing random graphics.
