About the Role

JOB OVERVIEW

My apologies, this is long but important

O’Rai Designs is hiring a creative, dependable graphic designer to help develop the Magenta Mae / Crafty Corner side of our brand.

This role is for someone who can create bold, funny, sassy and personality-driven product collections for Etsy, print-on-demand products and occasional craft-fair merchandise.

This is not a generic inspirational-printables shop.

Our designs should feel confident, playful, slightly sarcastic and full of personality.

If your design style is primarily:

Neutral
Minimal
Inspirational-only
Generic Canva templates
“Live, Laugh, Love” style artwork

This will probably not be the right role for you.

AI-assisted design is allowed and encouraged when used responsibly. However, the final work must be original, commercially safe, thoroughly edited and production-ready. We are not looking for someone who simply generates an AI image and submits it without refinement.

This is a long-term opportunity for the right person. We will begin with a paid trial project.

ABOUT THE BRAND

O’Rai Designs has two primary creative styles.

Heirloom Collections

Premium, traditionally illustrated botanical and decorative collections.

Magenta Mae / Crafty Corner

Fun, bold and slightly sassy collections created for women, moms, grandmothers, crafters, teachers, pickleball players and anyone who enjoys humor with a little attitude.

Examples of future Magenta Mae themes may include:

Coffee & Chaos
Hot Mess
Grandma Life
Pickleball
Line Dancing
Teacher Humor
Crafting
Flamingos
Holidays and seasonal collections

You will primarily work on Magenta Mae / Crafty Corner.

THE STYLE WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Magenta Mae style is:

Sassy
Playful
Confident
Colorful
Funny
Expressive
A little sarcastic
Feminine without being overly delicate
Cohesive across an entire product collection

Think:

Eye-rolling humor
Strong typography
Funny everyday situations
Confident women
Clever sayings
Fun character expressions
“Do the damn thing” energy
Humor with a little bite

You must be able to follow the approved brand direction consistently rather than changing the style to match your personal preference.

I will provide themes, direction and feedback. I also welcome strong ideas and suggestions from the designer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will help create complete themed collections rather than unrelated individual graphics.

Responsibilities may include:

Developing AI-assisted character artwork and decorative graphics
Creating coordinated typography designs and sayings
Refining AI-generated artwork in Canva, Illustrator or Photoshop
Creating transparent PNG files
Preparing artwork for SVG conversion or producing clean SVG files
Creating seamless patterns and coordinating design elements
Designing printable products
Preparing artwork for print-on-demand products
Creating branded Canva templates
Producing Etsy-ready listing images and mockups
Creating organized product bundles
Following approved colors, fonts and brand guidelines
Revising artwork based on feedback
Testing files before delivery
Organizing source files and final exports
Using consistent file names and folder structures
Clearly documenting all fonts, licensed assets and AI tools used

Possible products include:

SVG and PNG designs
T-shirts
Mugs
Tote bags
Stickers
Notepads
Planners
Printable wall art
Greeting cards
Craft-fair products
Digital bundles
Personalized products
REQUIRED SKILLS

You should have strong experience with:

Canva
Typography and layout
Digital product design
Transparent PNG preparation
Printable file setup
US Letter sizing, margins and bleed
Etsy product images and mockups
Creating cohesive collections
File organization and naming conventions
Following brand guidelines
Revising designs based on feedback
AI-assisted image generation and editing

Experience with one or more of the following is strongly preferred:

Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Procreate
SVG creation
Cricut-compatible files
Print-on-demand products
Etsy listings
Seamless patterns
Character consistency
Commercial-use licensing
AI image cleanup and correction
AI-ASSISTED ART REQUIREMENTS

AI may be used as part of the design process, but all submitted work must be:

Original
Commercially usable
Edited and refined
Free from obvious AI defects
Consistent with the approved character and brand style
Free from copied trademarks, copyrighted characters or competitor artwork
Delivered with editable source files whenever required

You must be able to correct common AI problems, including:

Incorrect hands or facial features
Inconsistent character appearance
Distorted objects
Misspelled text
Strange backgrounds
Poor resolution
Unusable details
Inconsistent colors or clothing

You must identify the AI tools, fonts, graphics and licensed assets used in each collection.

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

All files must be tested before final delivery.

Depending on the product, testing may include:

Opening and printing PDF files
Checking margins and bleed
Verifying transparent backgrounds
Opening PNG files at full resolution
Importing SVG files into Cricut Design Space or similar software
Confirming SVG layers and cut lines work correctly
Checking digital-download folders
Confirming files are named correctly
Reviewing mockups against the final artwork
Verifying all required files are included

Testing should be documented with screenshots or a completed quality-control checklist.

Work is considered complete when the agreed deliverables have been submitted, tested and meet the written trial requirements.

NOT A GOOD FIT IF

Please do not apply if:

You primarily use generic Canva templates
You submit raw AI-generated images without editing
You copy designs from Etsy, Pinterest or other creators
You do not test your files
You struggle to follow an established brand direction
You frequently miss deadlines
You need repeated reminders
You are uncomfortable receiving direct feedback
You cannot organize source files and final exports
You expect unclear or incomplete files to be accepted as finished work
PAID TRIAL PROJECT

Selected applicants will be invited to complete a paid trial collection.

The trial payment will be approximately $50, depending on the final scope.

The trial will likely include a small Magenta Mae-themed collection with approximately seven to eight coordinated deliverables.

A sample trial may include:

One primary Magenta Mae character design
Two additional poses or expressions
Two coordinating typography designs
Two decorative elements or icons
One seamless pattern or supporting design
Organized editable source files
Production-ready PNG exports
Sample product mockups
A completed file-testing checklist

The exact scope, delivery requirements, revision limits and acceptance standards will be provided in writing before the trial begins.

The paid trial is used to evaluate:

Creativity
Ability to follow the brand
Character consistency
Typography
File quality
Organization
Communication
Responsiveness to feedback
Testing
On-time delivery

Ongoing work will be available for the right designer.

Our eventual goal is to develop approximately three to five coordinated collections per week, depending on the size and complexity of each collection. This is a future production goal, not an expectation during the initial trial period.
