About the Role

Short-Form Editor (Freelance, Documentary Focus)
Remote | Project-Based

About Sundoc Studios
We are a mission-driven documentary and branded video production company. We produce cinematic, human-centered stories across three verticals: mission-driven branded documentaries, environmental and climate storytelling, and family legacy films. Our work favors authenticity over polish — we're looking for collaborators who understand how to find and cut a story, not just assemble footage.

About the Role
We're looking for a freelance short-form editor to join our project roster, cutting social and promotional content (15–90 second pieces) drawn from documentary interviews, B-roll, and long-form footage. This is a project-based role — you'll be brought on per production, with the opportunity for ongoing work as our project pipeline grows.

Responsibilities

  • Edit short-form content (reels, social cuts, teasers) from raw documentary interview and B-roll footage
  • Identify compelling story ---------- nts and soundbites within longer interview transcripts/footage
  • Pace and structure short-form pieces for platform-specific engagement (Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts, etc.)
  • Incorporate music, captions/subtitles, and light motion graphics as needed
  • Maintain narrative and emotional authenticity consistent with Sundoc's documentary style — avoiding overly polished or "corporate" editing choices
  • Collaborate with producers on creative direction and revisions
  • Turn around cuts efficiently within project timelines

Qualifications

  • Experience editing short-form content from documentary, interview-based, or non-fiction footage
  • Please do not reach out unless you've had experience with documentary style videos
  • Strong storytelling instincts — able to find the emotional core of a piece within limited runtime
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro (preferred) or equivalent editing software
  • Comfortable working with raw, imperfect documentary footage and long-form interview transcripts
  • Understanding of platform-specific best practices for short-form/social content
  • Reliable, deadline-driven, and able to work independently on a remote/freelance basis
  • Reel or portfolio showcasing short-form documentary/interview-based edits required

Details

  • Type: Freelance / project-based
  • Experience: Documentary/interview-based editing experience required
  • Compensation: Project-based, commensurate with experience and scope

How to Apply
Please send a reel or portfolio link, along with a brief note on your documentary editing experience.
