Colorist (Freelance, Documentary Focus)
Remote | Project-Based
About Us
We are a mission-driven documentary and branded video production company. We produce cinematic, human-centered stories across three verticals: mission-driven branded documentaries, environmental and climate storytelling, and family legacy films. Our work favors authenticity over polish — we're looking for collaborators who understand how color serves story, not just visual style.
About the Role
We're looking for a freelance colorist to join our project roster, supporting a range of documentary and branded documentary projects. This is a project-based role — you'll be brought on per production, with the opportunity for ongoing work as our project pipeline grows.
Responsibilities
- Color grade documentary and branded documentary content, from single interviews to full long-form cuts
- Develop and maintain a consistent visual tone across a project, in line with creative direction from the director/producer
- Balance and correct footage shot across varying lighting conditions, cameras, and locations
- Collaborate closely with editors and directors to ensure color supports the emotional and narrative arc of the story
- Deliver client-ready masters in required formats and specs
- Manage your own timeline and communicate proactively on turnaround
Qualifications
- Experience coloring documentary, branded documentary, or non-fiction content (real-world footage, not just narrative/scripted)
- Proficiency in professional grading software
- Strong understanding of color theory, skin tones, and mood-driven grading
- Comfortable working with mixed camera sources and imperfect production conditions
- Reliable, deadline-driven, and able to work independently on a remote/freelance basis
- Portfolio or reel showcasing documentary/non-fiction color work required
Details
- Type: Freelance / project-based
- Experience: Documentary color experience required
- Compensation: Project-based, commensurate with experience and scope
How to Apply
Please send a reel or portfolio link, along with a brief note on your documentary color experience
