About the Role

Data Operations Specialist - Ocula Data Operations Support

This is an independent remote contractor role with a UK-based company.

About Ocula:
Ocula is one of the world’s leading platforms for discovering contemporary art, connecting collectors with leading galleries, artists, and exhibitions globally. We combine editorial expertise, advisory services, and technology to build one of the industry’s richest structured datasets on contemporary art.

As we continue to invest in AI-assisted workflows, we are looking for a trusted partner or individual to support a key operational function within our data pipeline.

The opportunity:
Ocula receives hundreds of exhibition and art fair previews from leading galleries around the world. These previews contain artwork images and valuable metadata, including artist names, titles, dimensions, medium, pricing, and exhibition information.

Our proprietary AI platform extracts this information automatically. Your role is to review, validate, and correct the AI output before it is published into Ocula’s artwork database.

This is not traditional data entry. AI performs the initial extraction, while your role is to ensure the final dataset is complete, accurate, and consistently structured.

Responsibilities:

Review AI-generated artwork data against the original gallery preview (PDF or web page).
Correct metadata, images, and formatting where required.
Ensure all records meet Ocula’s quality standards before publication.
Prioritise work according to exhibition opening dates and major international art fairs.
Identify recurring AI extraction errors and communicate patterns to our product team to improve future automation.
Work within Ocula’s proprietary CMS and follow documented workflows and quality guidelines.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for people who are,
Exceptionally detail-oriented.
Comfortable working with AI-assisted workflows.
Fluent in written English.
Fast learners who enjoy structured, process-driven work.
Able to maintain accuracy while processing high volumes of information.
Proactive and able to identify opportunities for process improvement.
An interest in contemporary art is a bonus, but no prior art market experience is required.

Why this work matters:
The quality of Ocula’s artwork data underpins almost everything we do, including search, discovery, editorial, advisory, and client experiences. Every improvement made through this process also helps train and improve our AI models, meaning your work contributes directly to the evolution of our technology platform.

Initial engagement:
We anticipate beginning with a pilot project to establish workflows, quality standards, and expected throughput, with the intention of building a long-term relationship with the successful partner or candidate.

Tools Required:
To perform the work efficiently, you will need
A reliable computer with a stable internet connection.
Dual monitors (highly recommended for side-by-side PDF and CMS data checking).
Comfort using Slack, Google Sheets, and web-based CRMs.
