Amazon Product Matching Researcher (Long-Term, Detail-Oriented)
Curated from source
=====================================================
ABOUT THE ROLE
=====================================================
I run an Amazon US business. I source health, skincare and supplement products from a European online pharmacy and resell them on Amazon US.
I need a careful researcher to take products from that pharmacy website and find the matching product on ---------- (US), then record the ASIN in a Google Sheet.
This is long-term, ongoing work. I am looking for one reliable person to work with for many months, not a one-time job.
Important: this is repetitive research. ACCURACY MATTERS MUCH MORE THAN SPEED. One wrong ASIN can cost me money, so I would rather you find 30 correct matches than 100 sloppy ones.
=====================================================
IMPORTANT: THE PRODUCT NAMES ARE IN GERMAN
=====================================================
The source website is a German pharmacy. Most product names are written in GERMAN, but you must search on the US Amazon site in English.
You do not need to speak German, but you must be comfortable working around this. Common words you will see:
- Kapseln = capsules
- Tabletten = tablets
- Tropfen = drops
- Salbe = ointment
- Creme = cream
- Nachtcreme = night cream
- Saft = syrup / juice
- Pulver = powder
- Spray = spray
- Loesung = solution
- St / Stueck = pieces (count)
- Nicht vorraetig = OUT OF STOCK (skip these products entirely)
Practical method that works:
1. The BRAND NAME is usually the same in both languages (e.g. La Roche-Posay, Vichy, Weleda, Traumeel, Orthomol). Search by brand first.
2. Use Google Translate for the rest of the product name if needed.
3. Search ---------- using: brand + translated product name + size.
If you cannot handle this, please do not apply.
=====================================================
HOW THE PROJECT IS ORGANIZED (PLEASE READ)
=====================================================
The website has tens of thousands of products. We will NOT do all of them at once.
I will assign you ONE BATCH at a time — specific categories, subcategories or brands, with the exact URLs.
Rules:
- Work ONLY on the batch I assign you.
- Do NOT go ahead into other categories on your own.
- Finish the batch, tell me, and I will review it and assign the next one.
This protects both of us: you always know exactly what "done" looks like, and I can check the work properly before we continue.
=====================================================
WHAT YOU WILL DO (STEP BY STEP)
=====================================================
1. Open the category/brand page I assigned. Go through it page by page, product by product, in order. Do not skip pages.
2. SKIP any product marked "Nicht vorraetig". That is German for OUT OF STOCK. Only research products that show an "Add to shopping cart" button. Roughly a third of the site is out of stock and I cannot buy those, so researching them wastes your time and my money. Do not record them, and do not count them as "checked" in your Daily Log.
3. For each remaining product, look at the brand, product name and size. (You do NOT need to type these into the sheet — just enough to search with.)
4. Search for that product on ---------- (the US site — NOT ---------- ).
5. D ---------- if there is a valid match, using the rules below.
6. If there IS a match: record the source product URL and the Amazon ASIN in the Google Sheet, plus a one-word note if it is a special case.
7. If there is NO match: move on, no row needed.
8. At the end of each working day, fill in the Daily Log tab (explained below).
Note: the website loads products with JavaScript, so you must use a normal browser (Chrome is fine) and let each page load fully before reading it.
=====================================================
WHAT COUNTS AS A VALID MATCH
=====================================================
A match is valid when it is PHYSICALLY THE SAME PRODUCT — same brand, same item — even if the packaging, quantity, region or photo is different. Judge by the actual product, not by whether the text matches exactly.
VALID (record these):
- Same product, different pack quantity. Source sells 1 unit, Amazon sells a 3-pack. => MATCH. Note: pack
- Same product, slightly different size/volume. Source 50ml, Amazon 75ml. => MATCH. Note: size
- Same product, different regional version. Source is the German/UK/EU version, Amazon has the US version. => MATCH. Note: version
- Outdated photo on Amazon. The Amazon listing still shows an OLD photo even though the product was updated or repackaged. If it is the same product, it still counts. => MATCH. Note: photo
- The Amazon brand field does not exactly match the official brand, but it is genuinely the same physical product (e.g. a reseller listed it under a slightly different brand name). => MATCH. Note: brand
For all of the above, I will personally review each ASIN and d ---------- whether to buy. Your job is just to find the candidate.
NOT A MATCH (do not record these):
- Genuinely different brand or different manufacturer. A similar product from another company is NOT a match.
- Same brand but a different product line. (e.g. the brand's "Hydrating Serum" is NOT the brand's "Vitamin C Serum")
- Different variant / scent / flavor / formulation. This is a DIFFERENT product. Example: "fragrance-free" version vs "original" version => NOT a match.
- Listings where the Amazon brand shows as "Generic" or has no brand => skip.
- When you are NOT SURE: do NOT force a match. Either skip it, or record it with the note "uncertain" so I can check it myself.
GOLDEN RULE: When in doubt, it is NOT a match. A missed product costs me nothing. A wrong ASIN costs me money. You will never be blamed for saying "I could not find it."
=====================================================
THE GOOGLE SHEET
=====================================================
I will share a Google Sheet with you. It has one tab per category, plus a Daily Log tab.
For each match, fill in only these:
- No. = row number (already there)
- ASIN = the Amazon US ASIN of the matching product
- URL = the source product page URL
- note = leave BLANK for an exact match. Otherwise write ONE word:
pack / size / version / photo / brand / uncertain
That is all. No brand names, no product names, no prices, no titles. Just URL + ASIN + a one-word note where it applies. I handle everything else.
If the same ASIN matches more than one source product (for example two different sizes), that is fine — record it on each relevant row.
DAILY LOG TAB (required):
At the end of each working day, add one line:
- Date
- Which category/brand you worked on
- Which pages you covered (e.g. "pages 4 to 11")
- How many products you checked
- How many matches you found
This takes one minute and it is how I confirm coverage. It is a required part of the job.
=====================================================
QUALITY CONTROL — PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY
=====================================================
I want to be completely transparent about how I check the work, so there are no surprises later.
1. RANDOM AUDITS. For every batch, I randomly pick 15-20 rows and personally verify each ASIN against the source product. I do this every single batch, not just at the beginning.
2. CONTROL PRODUCTS. Some batches contain a few products where I already know the correct answer — including some that DO have an Amazon match and some that definitely do NOT. This tells me both whether matches are being invented and whether real matches are being missed through rushing.
3. ERROR THRESHOLDS.
- Under 5% errors: normal, no problem. Everyone makes some mistakes.
- 5-10% errors: the batch is returned for rework at no extra pay.
- Over 10% errors, or any sign that ASINs were entered without actually checking: we stop working together immediately.
4. TIMING. The Google Sheet records edit history. Rows added faster than a human could realistically verify will be treated as fabricated.
None of this is meant to be unfriendly. I am simply telling you upfront exactly how it works, because I plan to work with one person long-term and pay reliably every week. Honest, careful work is genuinely rewarded here.
=====================================================
PAY
=====================================================
- Starting rate: 4 USD per hour
- Hours: 30-40 hours per week
- Paid weekly
- Time tracking: you must use TimeProof (the OnlineJobs.ph time tracker) for all hours worked
- Raise: after 4 weeks, if your audit error rate stays under 5%, I raise your rate to 4.50 USD/hour. Reliable long-term people can go higher from there.
- Bonus: I also give extra bonuses for good work (see below for what "good" means here)
IMPORTANT: I pay for your TIME and your CARE, not per match found.
I do NOT pay more for finding more matches. There is no bonus for a bigger number, and no penalty for reporting "no match found." If a whole page has nothing worth matching, that is a perfectly good result and you will be paid the same. I never want anyone to feel pressure to invent a match.
WHAT THE BONUS IS ACTUALLY BASED ON:
- A low error rate when I audit your rows
- Honestly flagging things as "uncertain" instead of guessing
- Filling in the Daily Log consistently
- Being reliable week to week
In other words, the bonus rewards being CAREFUL, not being FAST. Someone who checks 60 products properly will earn more fro ---------- over time than someone who rushes through 200 and gets a third of them wrong.
=====================================================
REQUIREMENTS
=====================================================
- Strong attention to detail. This is the single most important quality.
- Able to search on ---------- (US site). Your browser must show US prices in USD — if it defaults to another country, set the delivery location to a US ZIP code such as 10001.
- Reliable internet and a normal desktop browser.
- Good written English.
