About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled YouTube Video Editor and Growth Strategist to take ownership of our long-form YouTube content.
You will primarily edit podcasts, alongside occasional vlogs and other long-form videos. This is not a basic editing position. We need someone who understands how to turn raw footage into fast-paced, engaging content that holds attention and performs well on YouTube.
You will also be responsible for designing high-converting thumbnails, improving video packaging, analysing performance and helping shape the overall YouTube content strategy.
The ideal candidate understands that a successful YouTube video depends on more than clean editing. The hook, pacing, storytelling, title, thumbnail and audience retention must all work together.
Key Responsibilities
Video Editing
- Edit long-form podcast episodes into polished, fast-paced and engaging YouTube videos.
- Edit vlogs and other long-form content when required.
- Remove unnecessary pauses, repetition and sections that reduce audience retention.
- Strengthen opening hooks and ensure videos capture attention immediately.
- Use cuts, zooms, graphics, captions, sound effects, music, B-roll and visual pattern interrupts where appropriate.
- Maintain strong pacing throughout each video without making the editing feel forced or distracting.
- Structure footage into a clear and compelling story, rather than simply editing clips in chronological order.
- Ensure audio is clean, balanced and professional.
- Colour-correct footage and maintain a consistent visual style across the channel.
- Export and deliver videos in the correct format and on schedule.
Thumbnail Design and Video Packaging
- Design high-quality YouTube thumbnails focused on increasing click-through rate.
- Develop multiple thumbnail concepts for important uploads when needed.
- Create thumbnails that communicate a clear idea, emotion or curiosity gap without becoming misleading.
- Work on title and thumbnail combinations rather than treating them as separate elements.
- Research competitor thumbnails, successful formats and emerging visual trends.
- Review thumbnail performance and suggest replacements when a video is underperforming.
- Maintain a recognisable visual identity while continuously testing new creative approaches.
YouTube Strategy
- Help develop content ideas based on audience interests, successful topics and channel performance.
- Identify the strongest hooks, stories and ---------- nts within podcast recordings.
- Recommend how each episode should be positioned before editing begins.
- Suggest titles, thumbnail directions, video structures and opening hooks.
- Analyse audience retention graphs, click-through rate, average view duration and other key metrics.
- Identify where viewers are leaving and use those insights to improve future edits.
- Study competing channels and identify formats, topics and packaging strategies that are working.
- Help create a repeatable content system that increases views, retention and channel growth.
- Provide clear recommendations after each upload rather than waiting to be given instructions.
Content Repurposing
- Identify standout ---------- nts from podcasts that could be repurposed into short-form content.
- Mark strong clips, hooks and controversial or insightful ---------- nts during the editing process.
- Collaborate with the short-form content team where applicable.
Results You Will Be Responsible For

- Improved thumbnail click-through rate.

Requirements
- Proven experience editing long-form YouTube videos, particularly podcasts.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating fast-paced, engaging editing.
- Experience designing YouTube thumbnails.
- A clear understanding of click-through rate, audience retention and average view duration.
- Strong understanding of hooks, storytelling, pacing and viewer psychology.
- Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or another professional editing platform.
- Proficiency in Photoshop or another professional thumbnail design tool.
- Strong audio-editing and colour-correction skills.
- Ability to work independently and make creative decisions without constant direction.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and time-management skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple videos at once.
- Willingness to review analytics and improve based on performance data.
Nice to Have
- Experience growing a YouTube channel.
- Experience editing interview-based, business, marketing or documentary-style content.
- Experience creating YouTube titles and developing content concepts.
- Experience producing short-form clips from long-form podcasts.
- Experience with motion graphics or After Effects.
- Knowledge of tools such as YouTube Studio, VidIQ, TubeBuddy or similar analytics platforms.
- Understanding of personal-brand or founder-led YouTube channels.
