We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Steel Estimator with experience in miscellaneous and structural steel fabrication. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with precision, and can confidently manage multiple estimating projects from takeoff through bid preparation.

This is a part-time opportunity, perfect for an experienced estimator looking for flexible work while contributing to high-impact projects.

Core Responsibilities

Estimating & Project Analysis

  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, contract documents, and project requirements to determine labor, material, and timeline needs.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for miscellaneous and structural steel projects, including stairs, railings, tanks, hoppers, chutes, and other fabricated steel components.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, bid proposals, and scopes of work.
  • Review project documents to identify potential risks, exclusions, and conditions that may impact project scope and pricing.
  • Develop value-engineered solutions and cost-saving recommendations where appropriate.

Project Coordination & Documentation

  • Manage drawing reviews and submittals from internal review through fabrication release.
  • Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain complete and competitive pricing.
  • Maintain estimating databases, bid records, and project documentation.
  • Support proposal development and business growth initiatives through accurate and timely estimating.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in miscellaneous metals and/or structural steel estimating.
  • Strong ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs and material takeoffs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong understanding of general conditions and project requirements that may impact scope, scheduling, and pricing.
  • Experience using estimating software, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to estimate accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Tekla EPM, Tekla Estimating, Tekla PowerFab Estimating, or Tekla Modeling.
  • Experience working with parametric assemblies within Tekla estimating environments.
  • Familiarity with industry standards including AISC, AWS, NOMMA, AESS, and SSPC.
  • Experience with complex, custom, or large-scale steel fabrication projects.
  • Background in value engineering and cost optimization strategies.
  • Strong collaboration skills working with fabrication teams, project managers, vendors, and subcontractors.
