Job Summary
As our Senior Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining accurate financial records across a portfolio of approximately 40 client accounts, including preparing and lodging around 65 BASs per period. This role involves overseeing daily bookkeeping activities, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role requires genuine public practice experience. You must have worked across multiple external clients in an accounting firm. The ideal candidate will have extensive bookkeeping experience, with experience working on complex bookkeeping, payroll & GST issues, with excellent organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for a portfolio of approximately 40 clients, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and managing ledgers.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other accounts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Oversee payroll processing, including calculations and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and lodge activity statements (BAS), GST reconciliations, and PAYG. Approximately 65 BAS per period.
  • Support clients with Individual Tax Returns (ITR) and basic business tax matters, including preparing sole trader financial statements and sole trader tax obligations. Prior experience in these areas highly regarded.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and stay updated on changes in accounting standards and practices.

Software Knowledge

  • Advanced proficiency with Xero including payroll module – must have
  • MYOB knowledge is beneficial

What We're Looking For

  • At least 4 years of Australian bookkeeping and payroll experience gained specifically within a public practice environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian bookkeeping principles and practices.
  • Proven experience preparing BAS's and financials across a multi-client portfolio.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and proactive in a remote work environment.
