Finance & Bookkeeping Specialist (Remote) — Casa Oso, near Yosemite
Curated from source
About us
Casa Oso is a small collection of thoughtfully hosted homes in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California, near Yosemite. We're a small, close team that cares about doing things properly — for our guests and behind the scenes. This role keeps our finances accurate, organized, and on time, so the rest of the team can focus on hosting.
The role
You'll be the person who keeps Casa Oso's books clean and our finances clear. It's remote, part-time contractor work, with real room to grow as we do. You'll own the bookkeeping and bring a sharp eye to the numbers — spotting what's off, keeping us compliant, and helping us understand how each property is really doing.
A week in this role looks like:
Keeping the books in QuickBooks — reconciling bank and card accounts, entering invoices and receipts, and flagging anything that looks off
Reviewing incoming and outgoing payments (were the cleaning, pet, and insurance fees charged correctly?) and approving payouts against invoices and contracts
Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports — revenue, costs, and KPIs per property — plus simple budgets
Handling tax and compliance filings (county lodging/TOT taxes, 1099s and W-2s, Franchise Tax Board, property taxes) and keeping our documentation tidy
Managing payment processors (Stripe, Airbnb, ---------- ) and supporting payroll, insurance, and licensing/registration tracking
Who we hope to meet
At least 2 years of bookkeeping experience in the vacation rental / short-term rental industry
Confident in QuickBooks
Able to do real financial analysis — not just record the numbers, but read them
A higher-education background in finance, business, accounting, math, law, or similar
Organized, precise, discreet with sensitive information, and comfortable working independently
A few practical things (worth a read before you apply)
This is independent contractor work. You'll need to be — or be happy to become — a registered self-employed individual in the Philippines, with a TIN and a BIR Certificate of Registration, and you'll look after your own taxes.
It's a part-time role — around 20 hours a week — with hours we agree together, paid as a fixed monthly salary, with a warm review after your first six months.
You'll work from your own reliable computer and internet.
Most of all, we're hoping to find someone who'd like to grow with us for the long run.
A little exercise (this is how we get to know you)
One quick, real-world one for us. We pass our booking-platform commission on to guests through a markup on the nightly rate.
If a platform takes 15% of the total price the guest pays, and we want to still net our full base nightly rate, what markup do we need to add to the base rate to cover the commission fully?
Show your working (a $200 base rate is fine to illustrate). And please put your answer — the markup, as a single percentage — on the very first line of your reply.
How to apply
Reply here on OnlineJobs.ph with the subject line: Casa Oso Finance Specialist — [Your Name], and include:
Your answer to the exercise above — with the markup percentage on your very first line, and your working below it
Your expected pay in USD — an hourly rate or a monthly rate for part-time (~20 hrs/week), whichever feels right to you
The hours and days you can comfortably commit to, and your time zone
A little about your relevant experience (especially vacation-rental bookkeeping and QuickBooks), with your resume/CV
A quick note confirming you're registered — or willing to register — as a self-employed contractor with a TIN and BIR Certificate of Registration
We read every complete application, and we'd genuinely love to meet you.
