About the Role

Business Development Executive
Customer Conversations | Appointment Setting | Relationship Building

Location: Remote – Philippines

Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week initially

Salary: Competitive hourly rate plus performance bonus. Paid monthly.

Do you genuinely enjoy talking to people?

Can you build rapport quickly?

Can you have an engaging conversation with someone you've never spoken to before?

Can you recognise an opportunity when others can't?

If so, we'd love to hear from you.

I'm Steve, Managing Director of Varissa, a growing UK business specialising in commercial finance, residential mortgages, vehicle finance and prestige vehicle sourcing.

I'm looking for someone to become a long-term member of our team, helping us introduce our services to new business customers throughout the UK.

This is not a scripted call centre role.

We are looking for someone who enjoys conversations, builds trust naturally and understands that great sales begin with listening.

About the Role

Your job is to start conversations.

Not to pressure people.

Not to hard sell.

Your role is to build rapport, understand businesses, identify opportunities and arrange appointments for our advisers.

Success in this role comes from asking great questions, listening carefully and recognising when there is an opportunity to help a customer.

Your Responsibilities
Making outbound calls to UK businesses.
Speaking with business owners and senior decision makers.
Building rapport quickly.
Introducing Varissa professionally.
Asking thoughtful questions.
Understanding customer needs.
Identifying opportunities for our services.
Booking appointments for our advisers.
Following up previous conversations.
Updating HubSpot CRM.
Recording accurate call notes.
Helping improve our calling approach and sales processes.
The Person We're Looking For

You will probably:

Love talking to people.
Enjoy meeting new people.
Be naturally curious.
Listen more than you speak.
Ask intelligent questions.
Recognise opportunities that others miss.
Be persuasive without being pushy.
Think quickly.
Stay positive and enthusiastic.
Have resilience.
Enjoy learning.
Want to become a long-term member of our team.

We're not looking for someone who simply reads a script.

We're looking for someone who can have genuine business conversations and leave people wanting to know more.

Communication Skills

Excellent spoken English is essential.

You will spend much of your day speaking with UK business owners and professionals, so you must be confident, articulate and easy to understand.

We are looking for someone who:

Speaks fluent, natural English.
Has clear pronunciation.
Sounds confident and professional on the telephone.
Builds rapport quickly.
Is comfortable speaking with senior business people.
Can adapt their communication style to different personalities.
Sounds warm, engaging and trustworthy.

As almost all of our customers are based in the United Kingdom, applicants must have spoken English that is clear, neutral and naturally easy for UK customers to understand. We are not looking for an American-style accent or sales approach.

Your spoken English and telephone manner will form an important part of the interview process.

Experience

Previous experience in any of the following would be an advantage:

Telephone sales
Business development
Appointment setting
Customer service
Financial services
Banking
Vehicle finance
Commercial sales

However, personality, communication skills and attitude are more important than industry experience.

We can teach our products.

We cannot teach curiosity, enthusiasm or the ability to build rapport.

Working Hours
Approximately 10 hours per week initially.
Applicants must be available during UK morning business hours.
The role is expected to grow as the business grows.
Salary is paid monthly.
Technical Requirements

Applicants must have:

Reliable high-speed fibre internet.
A quiet, professional home office.
A modern Windows PC or laptop.
A minimum of two monitors/screens.
A good quality USB headset.
A webcam for Microsoft Teams meetings.

This role requires working across CRM software, email , research tools and customer information simultaneously, so a dual-screen setup is essential.

Please Note

This is a dedicated role.

We are looking for someone who wants to become a long-term member of our team.

Working for another employer during your agreed Varissa working hours will not be suitable.

How to Apply

Please send:

Your CV.
A short covering letter.
Your expected hourly rate.
Video Introduction (Required)

Please record a 60–90 second video (recorded on your phone is absolutely fine).

Please tell us:

About yourself.
Your previous experience.
Why you're interested in this role.
Why you believe you would be successful.
Why you enjoy speaking with people.

Please upload your video to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or YouTube (Unlisted) and include the link with your application.

Please also answer the following questions:

1. Tell us about the best conversation you've ever had with a customer. Why did it go so well?

2. Imagine you call a business owner who says they aren't interested. Five minutes later they're still talking to you. What do you think you did differently?

Finally, please include the words "Blue Umbrella" at the end of your application. Applications without this phrase will not be considered.
