About the Role

My company run the UK's fastest growing personal development brand. We're building a native community app — essentially "our own ---------- " — where members join topic-based chat rooms, get daily motivational value, and stay engaged with the brand. Looking for a developer (or small team) to build this for iOS and Android and get it live on both app stores.

WHAT YOU'LL BE BUILDING

  • Branded app (our logo, black/silver palette, our vibe) with:
  • Multiple chat rooms/channels — Weekly Challenge, General Success Discussions, Big Wins, etc.
  • Locked/premium channels gated for our higher-tier customers only
  • Push notifications — weekly motivational quote, new weekly challenge alerts, other engagement pings
  • Clean onboarding/login flow
  • Admin/moderation tools for our team
  • Backend that can handle real-time chat at scale (20,000+ potential users) — you propose the approach (Firebase, Stream/Sendbird, custom, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Propose and justify technical approach (native vs. React Native/Flutter, chat infra, push notifications, tier-gating)
  • Build full UI matching our brand (assets provided)
  • Implement channel chat, tier-based access, push notifications
  • Handle App Store + Google Play submission/approval
  • Basic analytics (DAU/WAU, channel activity, notification opens)
  • Documentation/handover so our team can manage content without a dev for every change
  • Available for ongoing bug fixes and iteration post-launch — potential for a long-term working relationship

REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience shipping real-time chat/community apps to both app stores (portfolio/live links required)
  • Strong grasp of push notifications (APNs/FCM)
  • Experience with tiered/gated content in-app
  • Can work from brand guidelines to produce something polished, not template-feeling
  • Clear, proactive English communication
  • Available for a discovery call before quoting final timeline/price

NICE TO HAVE

  • Shopify integration experience (verifying premium-tier ownership for gating)
  • Experience with community/engagement apps specifically, not just messaging clones
  • Content moderation experience
